Music Academy
On the 14th of Feb, about 30 members of the music academy attended the fan favourite Phillip Island tour.
With String Works, Wind Symphony and Big Band students it was also fantastic to see bonds strengthen across different ensembles and a great chance to see, and show off, the great work that everyone has been doing.
We started with a performance for our very own Macleod College Primary to help inspire the next generation of MCMA students, before packing up and heading to Lang Lang Primary School for our second performance of the day. That night we played for the world famous Penguin Parade, ate pizza (just a regular amount this year), and made it down to the beach just in time to see the headline act.
It was an early start on Tuesday, and we had a different kind of performance playing for the locals buying their morning coffee at 3925 Espresso. Everyone was pleasantly surprised to get a musical performance to go with their breakfast, and many made a point of letting us know how much they enjoyed it.
After our morning performance we went Go Karting (where there were some questionable podium results), then to A-Maze-N-Things, followed by a walk on the beach and dinner.
On the last day, we played for San Remo Primary to a hugely enthusiastic audience and thunderous applause. Then we enjoyed some nature with lunch at the Nobbies and headed home.
We want to say a big thank you to the music teachers, as well as to Emma, Stacey, Joan, Nina and JoAnne in the office for their hard work behind the scenes to make it happen. As well as to all of the parents/carers involved for their support.
Our Phillip Island Music Tour was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect while doing the thing that we have missed most, making music together. It was wonderful to see the ensembles improve with each and every performance, and it can’t be said how valuable it is to connect and bond after the last two years. Already we know that it will be one of the highlights of the year, and we will all look back fondly for many years to come.
