Primary Bulletin

It has been a very different start to the school year for us here in Primary. We look out our windows and see a landscape that reminds me of Coober Pedy with its piles of dirt. But it is slowly taking shape, and we are very excited to see the end result, knowing that it will be a beautiful, inviting play space for our students.
Inside the building, our students have come back to school ready to work. There is a calm focus that has returned to our little building on the hill. I think the children can now appreciate how important it is to be at school with their friends and teachers. They have begun to reconnect with each other and regain their confidence in learning.
Our new Prep students have settled in beautifully and have already had their first sessions with their year 6 buddies. This year the Year 5 students have also been matched up with the Year 1 students as they missed this opportunity last year due to lockdowns. It is so satisfying to see the children interacting with each other, as they participate in their activities together. I’m sure there will be some wonderful memories made between these students over the coming year.
I am writing this after returning from our Swimming Day at Yarra Swim School. The students had a fabulous day participating in the events with so much enthusiasm. It was wonderful to watch them all having a go and gaining the satisfaction that goes with giving it their best. We started the day with traditional swimming races of freestyle, backstroke and kickboards. These were followed with the fun events run by the pool staff: noodle races, life jacket relays and coloured ball house competition. The house captains competed in a bottle race whereby, they had to move an empty bottle without touching it with their hands or arms from the middle of the pool to the edge. It was hilarious to see how creative they were getting their bottle over the line.
We are grateful to Jenny L and Jackie G who cooked us a delicious BBQ lunch to satisfy our ravenous appetites after swimming. It was topped off with Mr Arney serving the sauce. It was great to see him come along to support us.
We are looking forward to being able to run our next event, a twilight sports night, when our new sports ground is completed later this term. We will give you plenty of notice, so you can put this on your calendar.
Canteen
Students are able to access the canteen via lunch orders only, until further notice, as they are not able to get to the canteen without walking a considerable distance around the school. Louise, our canteen manager, has agreed to collect the baskets for us in the morning, and we will organise a roster of monitors to collect them just prior to lunchtime.
Dogs in the school grounds
As we have some students who are wary of dogs, in order to ensure a safe environment for them, could those of you bringing your dogs with you for drop off and pick up, please keep them outside the school fences. I appreciate your cooperation with this.
PFA Fundraising
Icy Poles
The PFA group will be selling icy poles after school again this term. They will commence this Friday, 11 February. Please support their efforts by buying a refreshing icy pole or 2. The money raised will go towards resources for the school and enhance our new updates to the playground facilities.
Easter raffle
We will be running our super successful Easter raffle on the back of last year’s incredible effort by you all. The PFA are requesting donations of chocolates, Easter eggs and other Easter related items to contribute to hampers that will be raffled off. The raffle will be launched around Friday 25th March and drawn on the last day of term 1. We look forward to your support for this fundraiser again this year.
