Round the classes

Reception class : Katie

We have been busy bees learning what it is like to be at school for a whole day. This week we have started learning our sounds. We have also been learning how to group and sort things in maths. We can't wait till our other friends get to come back to school to join us in the yard

Year 1/2 classes : Sam and Kelly

The Year 1/2 classes have had a very different start to the school year with Year 1 students learning at school and Year 2 students learning online.

Year 2 students have been having lots of fun sharing their learning via Seesaw. Kelly and Sam have shared lots of smiles as we watched student videos sharing new stretches, exercises and health hustle moves! We have also seen some incredible family board games that have been created. Congratulations on demonstrating the character strength of a 'Love of Learning' as you have tackled online learning Year 2s.

In Year 1 phonics lessons, students have been learning about graphs and digraphs and have been locating them in different words. During literacy lessons, Year 1 shared the story 'Zog' written by Julia Donaldson, listening hard to find rhyming words. Year 1 had a fun time when Margie read 'Zog' whilst they were wearing their very own creative set of patterned dragon wings!

In numeracy lessons, all students have been focusing on skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Year 1s have been using 'hands on' manipulatives to support their learning and have been finding missing numbers on a hundred chart.

'I have enjoyed the challenges in maths and playing fun games, like when we used the ginormous dice!' - Zoe

‘I enjoyed learning some digraphs because I like when one letter and another letter join together to make one whole sound.’ - Jacob

'I enjoyed doing writing about 'Zog' because we also got to draw a picture of Zog. I learnt that it is good to always ask for help if you get stuck.' – Victor

‘We loved learning online together & having each other to play with at online break times. We also loved our Home Learning Journal and having one place to record our activities/learning. Our biggest challenge was learning phonics without our teacher. ' – Layla, Maddi & Ruby

Kelly and Sam are extremely proud of every student for demonstrating flexibility, and resilience throughout the last two weeks. We would like to send out a special thanks to families at home, and to the SSOs and teaching staff at school for supporting students with their online learning tasks. We can't wait to have everyone back in our classrooms next week for what will be a wonderful year of learning together.

Year 3/4 class: Lizzie

There has been a lot of hard work done by the students during the past 8 days online. In maths we have been focusing on place value, multiplication facts, odd & even numbers, rounding to 10 and expanded notation.

We have been writing a variety of different texts; these have been narrative, persuasive, procedure, news articles, note taking and information reports.

Students have also made videos, recorded themselves reciting the 2 and 3 times tables, made arrays and had family members test them on these times tables.

Students also made imovies on some breaking news which was happening at their house during the week. See some of our photos from the week.

5/6 class: Sallie

What a busy introduction to learning for 2022. I miss the students and getting to know them in the regular way but seeing their on-line learning has given me a good snapshot of what they are capable of.

In maths we have been looking at prime and composite numbers, factors and factor trees. We have watched videos, completed on-line quizzes, used hands-on learning  and filled out activity sheets to explore and cement these topics.

For English we have been focusing on writing and the grammar that supports this. We have watched mini movies, nutted out the pebble, brick and the boulder and practised descriptive writing.

In geography we have been discovering what diversity means to us and completed some fact files on our Asian neighbours. As I said…busy, busy, busy. Our diversity posters are displayed in our room (see below). They are all fabulous!
