Lemons for sale- free!

I really loved seeing these lemons at the gate late last term and the handwritten signs offering them 'for sale- free'! What a lovely gesture from the DeCampo / Geers family for our community, thank you!

Flexischools App

We have taken on a new method of payments for the school. The Flexischools app allows you to pay for certain school services. Information is provided below. This is the preferred way to pay when available, but we will still accept cash and card. It is not available for all services, but we are hoping to streamline payments as much as possible. You can now pay your materials and services fees via the app, and soon instrument hire and book fees. Please call Sara on the school number if you have any questions.

School Card

The School Card scheme provides financial relief for eligible low-income families in relation to education costs. Applications for the 2022 School Card scheme are open. Applications for all types of School Card can be completed online.

Parents and students can access school card information and application forms using the short link: sa.gov.au/education/schoolcard.

A Note from Emily

Welcome back! Although this has been a strange start to the term, it has been so incredible to see everyone working hard and pushing through the obstacles that we have been facing. I wanted to say a big 'HELLO!' to the new students and families. I hope I get to meet you all in person at some point, but in the meantime Welcome to Uraidla! For those who don’t know who I am or what my role is, I am a Pastoral Care Worker here, which means my role is to help support students, families and staff find purpose, value and hope in their time at Uraidla, however that may look. A lot of my role is supporting students in wellbeing, but I also work in classrooms with learning and behavioural support. Please introduce yourself if you see me around!  And let me know how I can support your family more. There have been lots of changes this term, staff leaving, new staff joining , new Covid-safe restrictions, and there may be more changes to come, but know that you are supported and valued here in Uraidla. I am looking forward to seeing all students back at school next week! 🙂🙂

Take care,

Emily Morgan, Pastoral Care Worker

Disability Support Group

A message from Emily Pedlar, school mum:

I would like to reach out to other parents of kids with disabilities to offer each other support (and support for siblings) & potentially come up with ideas to work with the school and parent community in becoming even more disability aware.
Please ring or text me on 0414 541 159 or email Emily.k.pedler@gmail.com to let me know you are interested in joining this group, or for more information. Once I hear from people I will organise a get together for us as a group. Thank you!

Safety request

It is wonderful that our school is growing, but it does pose some challenges! One of these is that we now have more traffic as children get dropped off and picked up. We need your help!

Traffic flow:

  • Swamp Road pick up- please always travel in an anti-clockwise direction around the oval. If you see others travelling in the wrong direction please let them know! Please also be aware of the speed limit of 10kph
  • Kidney Street - At pick up and drop off times this is an 'unofficial' one-way street. Please enter from the Swamp Rd end and exit via Days Road.

Pedestrian safety:

  • Please do not stop and chat in the roadway near the school gate. There are cars coming and going, and lots of young school children and toddlers around, which makes it a very hazardous place to wait. Please wait in your car, near the gate or on the grassed areas so that cars can enter and leave safely and we can ensure children are safe. Thank you!

Nut Aware reminder

An important reminder to all families that Uraidla Primary is a Nut Aware school. This means that we ask all families to refrain from sending any items containing nuts to school. We have a number of students with severe nut allergies, and who may experience an anaphylactic reaction if exposed to nuts. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep all of our students safe at school!

Student Absences

A reminder that if your child is absent from school we would appreciate a phone call or SeeSaw message as soon as possible on the day. If you know in advance please let your child's teacher know. For any absences for family holidays of 2 days or more you must request an exemption signed by Margie. See Di for this form.

If your child arrives after the bell has gone or needs to leave early then they must visit the Front Office for a late pass or to be signed out. Thank you!

P&F News

Dear families, the Parents and Friends are doing a call out for second hand uniform donations. Please drop them to the front office as we will be holding another second-hand uniform sale as soon as we are able. Thank you.

Uniform reminder

The start of the year is a great time to make sure students are wearing the correct school uniform. The full uniform policy is on the school website. Here are a few things we sometimes need to remind families about, thank you! :

  • Coloured hair accessories are not part of the uniform - school colours only please.
  • Jewelry is not to be worn at school, or make up (including nail polish).
  • Boots and lightweight sandals are really not suitable for school wear. Sneakers are the best choice for school, since classes participate in physical activity every day.

COVID restrictions

Here are the current recommendations from the Department for Education:

COVID safe measures

  • All students and staff must stay home if unwell, even mildly. If students become unwell at school, we are unable to care for them here and we will be contacting you to collect them asap. Please have a plan in place for someone who can collect your child within a half hour.
  • We will be maximising ventilation by leaving doors/windows open, using air conditioning and fans, and keeping doors and windows open. Please make sure your kids have a jumper - it might be cold in classrooms with the additional ventilation.
  • Outdoor learning will be encouraged where appropriate.
  • Adults will  practise physical distancing where possible.
  • We will do our best to minimise student/child intermingling across class groups inside for the time being – and spread kids out in the spaces we have available.
  • We have been asked to limit non-essential visitors on-site; allied health professionals and student support services are an exception.
  • We will continue to practise and promote hand and respiratory hygiene. Hand sanitiser will be provided for regular use, and disposable masks.
  • Extra cleaning of the school daily will continue. This means that high contact areas of the school will be cleaned twice daily.
  • Students are being asked to fill up their drink bottles from taps in preference to drinking directly from the taps, so please make sure they have a labelled bottle every day.

Face masks

  • We will be requiring everyone to wear masks, to minimise the risk of infection.
  • Face masks are strongly recommended for students in years 3 to 6. We will be expecting all students in the Year 3-6 classes to be wearing a mask.
  • Once we receive smaller masks, we will be asking our younger students to wear masks as well. Children can bring their own masks from home as well.
  • Teachers will be wearing masks, except when it impedes the ability to teach.

Can parents and carers come into the buildings?

  • We have been asked to minimise the number of adults who come onto our site for the time being.  Please send notes back to school with children rather than dropping them off yourselves, and contact us by phone or SeeSaw in preference to meeting in person.
  • However, if you need to see us, yes you are welcome! You just need to ensure you do a COVID-Safe check in when entering the building and practise physical distancing from other adults. If there is another adult in the front office area, please make your presence known to front office staff and then wait outside until called.
  • Please enter via the Kidney Street red door main entrance only.
  • Please note that all adults are required to wear masks when entering school or preschool buildings.

Pick up and drop off

  • In the morning please continue to drop children off at one of the entrances to the school grounds, and allow them to make their own way to their classrooms. If you need to speak to your child’s teacher, please make contact through the SeeSaw app. We would like Reception children to now make their own way to the classroom.

Assemblies

  • Assemblies are postponed until further notice.  We will be trialing a Zoom Assembly next Friday with each class in their own classroom.
