Acting Principal's Views

From Mandy O'Mara

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you are enjoying our new newsletter format. We have partnered with iNewsletter to provide this new format. Have you tried to translate the newsletter into your preferred language?

School Council

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents who have returned their School Council ballot forms. Please ensure your form is back to us by 4:00 Friday 4th March. We will be announcing the outcome early next week.

RA Tests

I’m sure you have heard via the media that the use of RA tests will continue until the end of Term 1. Students will continue to receive free RA tests between now and April 8. We will be sending these tests home at regular intervals. We encourage you to continue testing your child/children on Tuesday and Thursday. The tests for the next fortnight were distributed to students yesterday. Please ensure you check your child’s bag if you haven’t received your new pack.

Classroom Visits

This week I have been fortunate to spend time in classes observing Maths lessons. I have been really impressed with the rigorous work that is taking place and the engagement levels of students. I witnessed the Grade 1 students learning about shapes and using really complex language to both name and describe shapes. The Grade 5 students were learning how to measure angles. This lesson certainly challenged me to recall my knowledge of this concept. The Grade 2 Class I visited were using concrete materials to learn about place value. Their understanding of the number system was reinforced by playing games and manipulating materials.

Traffic Management

As school returns to normal, the issues with road traffic management are starting to re-occur. A few reminders:

  • three-minute zones apply at drop off in the morning and pick up after school.
  • double parking is illegal at any time.
  • parking across and blocking driveways of homes that neighbour our school is illegal.
  • parking on parklands and nature strips is not permitted.
  • please encourage your children to use the crossings.
  • parking in the bus stop is illegal.
  • consider parking a little further away from the school and walking the last 500 metres or so.
  • the speed zone around the school is 40kmh.
  • students should exit the car on the curb side only.

Whittlesea Council inspectors and the Police Highway Patrol will make random checks and issuing infringement notices.

For the safety of all our students- please slow down, park correctly and adhere to road signs and rules.

Picking up students early

Please refer to the two timetable schedules on Page: "Things to Remember"

If your child has an appointment please try and make it outside of school hours. Please only pick up your child early if absolutely necessary and unavoidable. If you do have an unavoidable appointment, we ask that you avoid picking children up during break times. It is difficult for students to hear announcements whilst they are out in the yard playing.

Grade 3 Camp

Our Grade 3 students will be attending Camp Oasis next week. The weather forecast at the moment is looking really favourable. I know that this will be a memorable experience for our first time campers.

Kind regards,

Mandy O’Mara

Acting Principal.
