Performing Arts

The last two weeks have been filled with more acting, dancing and singing not only in Performing Arts classes but throughout the auditions for Shrek Jr. the Musical. All students are developing their performance skills and focusing on preparing for the production rehearsals beginning next term.

The 3/4s have loved making, singing and dancing with their puppets. Last week they performed either in small groups or as a class singing ‘Life’s a Happy Song’ from The Muppets. They created their own choreography, learnt the lyrics and sung their hearts out!

The grade 2s continued learning ‘When I Grow Up’ from Matilda the Musical, with a focus on breathing and annunciation as they sing. They also completed their auditions for the role of Baby Bear and Baby Shrek in Shrek Jr.   We have some very talented young students at St James!

The 5 and 6 students finished and performed their script/scene writing task. This task prepared them for their Shrek Jr. auditions this week, working on developing characters and working with others to perform.

The Foundation and grade 1 students continued with singing exercises and also learnt some choreography to ‘September’ from the Trolls movie. Check out the photos to see their awesome moves! Also, the grade 1s completed their auditions for the role of Baby Shrek and Baby Bear today in class too.

Production News

This week has been filled with over 90 auditions for the lead roles in our production of Shrek Jr. and we couldn't be prouder of the students who came in and showed us their extraordinary skills! It takes an enormous amount of courage to sing and perform in front of a panel of 3-5 adults!

What happens next with casting and the announcement…....

Discussions are now happening between the audition panel to sort out who is best suited for each of the lead characters. With so many talented students, we have very hard decisions to make casting the grade 5 and 6 students in these roles, as we are more than aware that this will be their final St James production!   The grade 6 students will also have additional offstage roles i.e., costumes, lighting, sound, props etc.

Cast announcements will be made in the first week of term 2.

Warmest regards,
