WELLBEING

Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships Education

Hello Everyone,

I thought I would take some time to give an overview of one of the Wellbeing Programs we are currently using at St James to support our students Social and Emotional Learning(SEL). Enhancing our wellbeing and working on our relationships is a core part of our everyday practice at St James. To begin each day our students have a yarning circle, where they are given the opportunity to share in a safe space. During their designated SEL time the staff and students at St James have been  following the Respectful Relationships Program. St James became a partner school in this program at the end of 2021. Our lead schools are Firbank and Brighton Grammar.

The Respectful Relationships program supports schools and early childhood settings to promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. During 2020 our staff attended many online webinars to ensure we are teaching this program with the most up to date information and advice. During 2021 we will continue to expand on our knowledge and practice of teaching this program.

The program aims to be embedded across all areas of school life not only in the classroom but on the playground, sporting fields and art spaces also.

The following link will give you further information on what units are taught. You can also find on this link materials and resources that staff actually use at each year level.
