OSHClub

What we’ve been up to at OSHC!

We have had so much fun over the past two weeks as we’ve continued engaging with our after-school clubs! Within these clubs our weekly goals of focus have centred around building an awareness of our community responsibilities. Check out some of the awesome things we’ve been up to below!

Sports Club

The children had an awesome time developing their dribbling and shooting skills as they participated in some basketball drills. We also had tonnes of fun preparing for the Athletics Carnival as the children practiced long jump their running technique!

“I loved shooting hoops!”- Annie, Grade 1.

“I loved running and jumping. It was so much fun!”- Gwen, Prep.

Super Science Stars Club

Finishing our science focus “reactions” this term, the children have really enjoyed learning about how and why apples go brown. We also attempted to make ice cream in a bag, however this was not so successful…an important lesson in the scientific method!

“Vinegar didn’t make the apple go brown.”- Lidia, Prep.

“Next time, we should use salt to make the ice super cold. Then the ice cream will work!”- Lucia, Grade 2.

Gardening Club

The children have really enjoyed exploring the new Tiley gardens. They have loved engaging in self-directed play as they water and care for the gardens and engage their sensory capacities in nature.

“I am making a big volcano with Charlie”- Luca, Prep.

Building Club

The children have been taking off in building club as they’ve made some awesome paper rockets!  We’ve also had some mini architects in building club who have really enjoyed building houses using a range of construction materials.

“We built a house”- Hudson, Grade 1.

Pupil Free Day: A Day in Paris

On Friday the 19th of March, the children had the best time as they explored Parisian culture!  They absolutely loved learning all about France as they participated in some exciting Kahoot trivia, made French flags and painted some Monet inspired artworks. The children were also very busy in the kitchen as they picked fresh produce from the Tilley Gardens to use with their own Croissants and French Toast. What a fantastic day!

Family Tree

Recently at OSHC, we’ve been working on the creation of our OSHClub family tree. Charlie in Grade 1 has helped to paint the sign for this area and has been the first family to join our tree. We hope to use this space as an area to celebrate the different cultures and families that make up the OSHC community at St James.

If you currently attend OSHC, we would greatly appreciate if you could send through a family photo so that we can build our tree!

Caritas Cooking Club

As a part of our contribution to Project Compassion to mark Lent this year, St James OSHClub will be running four Caritas Cooking Clubs to raise funds for those most marginalised around the world.

Each Friday, we will cook a dish from a different cuisine, to celebrate the many amazing cultures around the world. We are aiming to raise $30 for Project Compassion this year and would greatly appreciate if you could make a donation using our donation link:

https://lent.caritas.org.au/stjamesoshclub/

Please help us to raise funds for our global community by donating and sharing some yummy foods from across the globe in our Friday Caritas Cooking Club!

Easter Breakfast

In support of St James' Lenten fundraising for Project Compassion, OSHClub will be holding a yummy breakfast and an open morning at OSHC next Thursday the 1st of April from 8.20am. We will have a range of delicious breakfast foods on offer including fresh fruit, hot cross buns and much more! We will also have some fun Easter craft on offer for your children to experience the great things we get up to at OSHC.
