Year 5 & 6 at Camp Rumbug

CAMP RUMBUG

On Monday 15th of March year 5/6 went to Camp Rumbug. We did loads of fun activities like the giant swing, flying fox, the mud run and much more. The food was good too, especially the chicken schnitzel. We stayed for two nights and came back on Wednesday the 17th.

Below are some snapshots we wrote about some of the activities we did.

The Giant Swing

I’m gripping the rope so tight that my hand hurts. My other hand is on the string, but I can’t bring myself to pull it. I hear the instructor yelling “Three, two, one!” I pull the string. I can feel the wind rushing on my face. My heart isn’t beating. I feel my stomach rising up. I see my friends yelling far below. This is both the most fun and most terrifying thing I have ever done.

The Flying Fox

As I got hooked up to leave the platform, I looked at the flying fox that was at least 400m long but it felt like 2km high. Suddenly the instructor was counting down, 3,2,1 go! I jumped. The harness was digging into my skin as I bounced off. I was over the trees when I wondered, Will I make it? Is it strong enough? I was zipping down the flying fox at 100km an hour. The view was spectacular and I could hear the wind gushing around me. I suddenly realised I need to turn around to land.

Archery

As I step up off my seat to take the bow off its holder I take an arrow from its pouch. A rush of excitement flew through my body as I loaded the bow and pointed it at the target. As I pulled the arrow back I felt the cold air bite me on the lips as I counted down to the release of the arrow. Three….two….one fwoosh! As I let go of the string not only was I relieved that the arrow had hit the blue target but the strength used to pull the arrow back was actually starting to hurt. I then feel a slap on the back from my friend Aston as I sit back down so he can take my place.

Dinner!

I gently walked on the hard ground to the dining area. I grabbed a dark blue tray that probably looked like it had not been washed properly and a plate. An old chubby lady slopes a gooey pile of chunky meat on to it. It was like a pile of steaming dog poo. Next she scoops some cold soggy pasta on top. I am disgusted. I walk around the tables to find my friends and a young girl yells out this is amazing! I think maybe just a little sniff. I lean down to my plate and breathe in my nose. Not bad I think to myself, I shovel  some food on to my fork as it touches my dry crusty lips I freeze. This is delicious. I go for more and more.
