Leader of Mission

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised from the dead, you will be saved”. Romans 10:9:

Dearest Marian Community,

As our College term comes to a close, so does our Lenten journey. Term 1 has proved to be an exciting and eventful term, as our College spirit was brought back to life through the many opportunities that we were able to engage with. This term was highlighted by Caritas - Project Compassion, Reconciliation and Harmony Day.

At the beginning of our Lenten journey, our College embarked on its mission to demonstrate compassion for communities around the world who are suffering and in living in poverty through donating to Caritas - Project Compassion. The challenge that was set aligned itself with the 2021 mission statement from Project Compassion “BE MORE”.

Being the generous community that we are, we stepped up and answered to the challenge. Within two weeks of running Project Compassion in our College, we managed to donate $1200. Many had questioned whether there was a target that we wanted to reach, my response was always the same… “let’s see how much we can donate as a community”. MCC you did not disappoint! As a College community we raised a total of $3655, to put this into perspective this is $1200 more than 2019. This demonstrates the generous nature of our community and the compassionate culture we are building. The generosity of students and staff has been amazing and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this community.

Our top Homerooms are as follows:

1st: 10.4 - Total: $890.10

2nd: 10.5 -Total: $403.70

3rd: 11.2 - Total: $283.35

4th: 10.3 - Total: $180.00

5th: 7.7 - Total: $144.00

Well done to all Homerooms and thank you to all who contributed to the success of our term 1 project. A special mention has to go out to the year 10 cohort, because as a collective they donated $1464.00. We have now set a bar for 2022, where we hope to beat this year's total donations.

The Community Action Team have started to demonstrate their acts of service in many different ways around our College. Most noticeably, their contribution towards assisting our College canteen with the distribution of the lunch orders to help alleviate the build up of lines during lunch times. This is something that the Community Action Team will continue to do throughout the rest of the year.

We now look forward to term 2, where it will be another term full of opportunities for our College community to demonstrate the Marian spirit and further develop our compassionate culture that we are building. In term 2, we have NAIDOC week, I-Care Kits, our Brendan and Marcellin Feast days, and the recommencement of the class visits of our College Chaplain Fr Paul. NAIDOC week activities will be based on the 2021 theme “Heal Country”, this will occur in week 10 of term 2. I-Care Kits will be our College service project for term 2, where each Homeroom will require its students to donate a particular item to support those less fortunate within our Griffith community. Each year group will be allocated two particular items that will lead to the success of this project. More information about I-Care Kits will be released in term 2.

Marian, you finished term 1 in true Marian spirit and I cannot wait to see how you continue to flourish in term 2. I wish you all a very happy Easter and a well deserved break. Enjoy your time with your families, your break from your studies and come back for term 2 rejuvenated, refreshed, ready to grow and take on the new challenges and opportunities that come our way.

Until next term, remember ...

“Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions”

Happy Easter to all,

Mr Abdala
