Assistant Principal News

As Term One draws to a close we reflect on all of the fantastic events and experiences our staff and students have either facilitated or taken part in so far this year. After a year of COVID restrictions in 2020 the College community has ‘reset’ and ‘refocused’ and is now able to re-embrace events that previously could not occur.

Last week we were very pleased to be able to welcome our potential Year 7 2021 students to the College. They met their peers from a variety of schools and engaged with exciting History and Maths lessons facilitated by Mrs Blanco, Mr O’Reilly and Mr Lyon. This experience enabled the students to become familiar with some of our Junior teachers, the College grounds and everyday elements such as bell times, year group lunch areas etc. We look forward to welcoming our future students again in Term 2.

Something to highlight moving forward into Term 2 is the importance of adhering to College rules and regulations. A reminder to parents that students should not have bright unnatural coloured hair, appreciate hair styles and natural coloured nails. It is also important to remind our students that e-cigarettes are considered illegal by the College and any students caught smoking, dealing or hiding e-cigarettes will be sent home and parents contacted.

I am pleased to say that last week we successfully held our NAPLAN Online Practice Tests. These tests were invaluable for Year 7 and Year 9 students. I want to thank all of our Test Administrators, Teacher Assistants, IT and Admin Assistants for the smooth running of the tests. We look forward to the actual NAPLAN test in May.

On Wednesday Night the College also held our first Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences for 2021. The Conferences were held via Zoom for Years 7-11. I thank all the parents, students and staff who took the time to attend and engage in valuable learning discussions. For parents and students that did not attend, I encourage you to take part next Term to help build the partnership of learning between parent, student and teacher.

On Tuesday this week the Assistant Principals, Principal and Leader of Curriculum participated in the biannual Learning Collaborative hosted on Zoom from Educational Researcher, Teacher and Leader Lyn Sharratt. Lyn’s Zoom live from Canada provided insight into the Instruction process and strategies to differentiate learning, build student ownership and promote higher order thinking skills. On Monday 19th April - first day of Term 2, we will have a Staff Development Day, where staff will engage in Professional Learning on these concepts.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and restful Easter break and holiday.
