Classroom Reports

Welcome to 2021

Foundation and Year 1

It was great to see everyone on Monday at Learning Conversations and to celebrate children's learning progress! We are really enjoying learning about dinosaurs at the moment and we have been studying their teeth to learn about what foods they may have eaten. Annette brought in a fossil for us to look at which was very interesting.

Mrs. Tanya Chalmers, Teacher

Year 1/2

Thank you to those who were able to come to the Learning Conversations. It is always a great chance to share the things your child is able to do and talk about the ways you can help at home.

At the moment we have a room full of Paleontologists who are examining how we use skeletons and fossils to discover what dinosaurs might have looked like. It is fascinating learning about these creatures, although most of us are glad they are no longer around!

In Maths we have been naming and drawing 2D and 3D shapes. Yesterday we changed our squares into cubes.

With the cooler weather hitting us again, please remember to bring a school jumper or jacket. Slippers are welcome to be worn in the classroom on wet, muddy days.

Year 3/4

This week we have continued with our persuasive writing. It has also been great to see that everyone has been participating with their homework on the topic of "How things get hot".

Grade 3 and 4 have sent out a reading challenge to all primary students!!! 3000 nights of reading!!!! The grade 3/4s have written up a proposal asking for all primary students to meet the challenge. If we can get all students to read every night and for diaries to be signed Mr Forrest will magically turn into Princess Forresta for a day, complete with tutu and fairy wings and cook everyone PANCAKES! Princess Forresta is allowed to choose one Fairy helper (AKA Fairy Wings Lockhart) to help sprinkle some extra magic into the delicious pancakes ... LET'S GET READING !!!

Year 5/6

It was lovely to see most families attend our Learning Conversations. Hopefully all families appreciated the time as much as I did. As always, if there are any concerns, questions or celebrations, please always get in contact through email or the school phone number.

Congratulations to our ANZAC Poster winners Aidan and Amelia. Your beanies are looking smashing! On the note of ANZAC, it was incredible to see the knowledge, respect and near reverence the grade 5/6 students displayed during our studies and ceremonies held for ANZAC Day.

In class this term in Science we will begin to tackle Heat, Light and Electricity. I’m hoping to have some budding scientists and engineers create a wondrous world. Hopefully without the mad scientist hair!

NAPLAN is next week. Our timetable has been arranged. There will be some disruption to normal classes for our Grade 6 students but I know they will adapt with all the resilience and flexibility they have already displayed throughout the year.  For our Grade 5, NAPLAN gives a snapshot of your learning. It is not the ‘be all and end all’.

The countdown for camp is on. Almost 5 weeks to the day! Watch for information to come out very soon.

Year 8 & 9 English

Year 8 and 9 English classes have both completed their persuasive writing units that carried over from last term. The level of writing and speeches presented this year was outstanding and has made student selection for the Jill Millie Public Speaking Competition in Term Three very difficult.

The Year 8 class will now turn their focus to Short Stories, looking at characterisation and the elements of short stories. This will lead to analysing a number of short stories and eventually creating their own short story for their final assessment piece.

The Year 9 class are also focusing on a literary text in the novel "The Outsiders" this term. This book will strike many of the students’ interest due to issues that arise in it but also through the identity of the author. The Year 9s also have NAPLAN next week and whilst preparation through practice NAPLANs has been limited due to time constraints carrying over from last term, students are well prepared through general classroom activities and assessments.

VCE & VCAL

Welcome back to term 2. It has been lovely to chat with our senior students this week and welcome them back to yet again another busy term for us. It was also great to catch up with some parents and carers at the Learning Conversations on Monday.

Edrolo is an online resource designed to provide students with engaging, informative and comprehensive presentations that acts as an additional support alongside classroom teaching to assist students understand and learn all they need to know for their VCE subjects. Edrolo classes are available for most Unit 3 & 4 subjects and selected Unit 1 & 2 subjects.

If you are unable to log onto your Edrolo account or would like some support navigating the site, please speak with Mrs Barker

Year 12:

This term is a very important one as students will be bombarded with a lot of information about where they may be heading once they leave school. We can appreciate that this is a time of very mixed emotions as you may be excited as well as scared for what the future holds.  Not everyone knows what they want to do when they finish at Wedderburn, and even those who do know, don’t know the pathway to achieve their goals.

Take time over the next few weeks to access the font of knowledge and experience that surrounds you.  Talk to your teachers about different TAFES, Universities and Colleges that you could access. Book in a time to meet with Sue or Mary-Ann to discuss a work pathway.  Having a goal helps make the hard work seem a little easier as you know what you are working towards.

Math's Pathway

With most classes having completed their first cycle for Term 2, please find an example of how students’ workbook should look. When completing a module at home, students’ should be still following the criteria shown below.
