Principal's Report

“Good communication is the bridge between confusion and clarity”  Nat Turner

We have grown as a school and this has brought with it the increased complexity of maintaining clarity and transparency with students, parents and staff.  We have a Communication Policy which can be found on the following link on the school website:

https://beaumarissc.vic.edu.au/communication-policy-procedures-and-schedule-final-2/

We want to limit any confusion about the school’s programs, protocols, and processes so use the website along with Compass to streamline the communication points.  We hold student forums and parent forums to reflect on areas we can improve in our communication with our school community.  We receive insight from our Parents’ Association and School Council  about areas for improvement in our communication with families.  There will be a Parents’ Association meeting held tomorrow at the college and we would encourage interested parents to attend.

Year 8s returned from Lord Somers Camp on Friday having had an active and fun filled week.  The sun was out most days which was a bonus as a number of the activities were on the water.  The trivia night and disco were also a great success with some of the teachers joining the students on the dance floor.

Our Year 7 and 9 students will begin NAPLAN tomorrow.  The students are prepared and understand the expectations of the NAPLAN test conditions.  Make up tests will be held on Friday.

2021 Student Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS)

The annual AtoSS will be conducted at Beaumaris SC during GOAL group on Monday May 17th. The AtoSS is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools to gain an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Please find further information in the attached letter. Participation in this survey is voluntary. If you do not wish for your child to do the survey, please opt out via email to : beaumaris.sc@education.vic.gov.au Please do so before Thursday May 13th, stating that you wish to opt out of your child’s participation, along with their name and year level.

Stage 2 Update

There was the first concrete pour for the foundations of the Stage 2 build on Saturday.  The weather was on our side and the process proceeded smoothly.  We have been working closely with Built Environs to ensure that our school has minimal disruption to a school day.  They have been very aware and mindful of working on a live site.  The next step is preparing the area for the additional bike shed between the MPP and the Pavilion which will begin next week.  Once this bike shed is operational then the bike shed off of Balcombe Road will be closed until the start of 2022.  We will be meeting with the design team to discuss final designs of internal joinery this week.

Curriculum Highlights

Be a Vet – we have had some resident chickens and dogs visit the school measuring and monitoring vital signs and conducting animal management tasks. We have also been on a farm visit looking at equine health and management where the students have been working with horses, along with small animal husbandry of goats, guinea pigs and rabbits.

Year 8 Innovate,  students are designing and constructing purpose built wildlife boxes to encourage wildlife to the area. The students will be working on this engaging PBL across Term 2 and 3.  Keep an eye out for photos in future newsletters.
