St Xavier's Athletics Carnival

The Athletics Carnival will be held on THURSDAY 24 June. More details will follow closer to the day.

Running Training

This term, we have been very lucky to have Mr Andrew Frend providing running training to the students in preparation for our upcoming Athletics Carnival.

Diocesan Cross Country

Best of luck to the following students who will travel to Eastern Creek next Tuesday for the NSWCPS Cross Country:

Ruby Cygan, Joshua Spinks, Lara Torrens, Maggie Brown, Angus Simpson, William Stevenson, Sienna Edmunds, Katie Spinks, Edward Sheedy and Imogen Torrens.

Diocesan Gala Day

Next Friday, 11 June, we will be sending 127 students from Years 3-6 to the Diocesan Gala Day in Inverell. The students will compete in a fun, non-competitive day in either Soccer, Netball or League.

A massive thanks to our wonderful parent volunteers who have given up their time to come along and coach/manage a team.

Diocesan Cricket Trials

This Friday, four students (Jedd Smallwood, Archie McCormack, Archie Lyle and Lucas Grosser) will travel to Tamworth to compete at the Diocesan Cricket Trials. Best of luck boys!

Quirindi Horse Sports

St. Xavier's had five students rise incredibly early and attend Quirindi Horse Sports on Friday 21 May. Even though we had a small team, they definitely did St Xavier's proud. Henry Maslen won overall Champion 11 years boy rider, with Lachie Gurney, Jazmin and Aimee Hobden all receiving Sportmanship Awards and prizes in their respective age groups. Eloise Maslen received our Horsemanship Award. They all rode beautifully and many people commented on their horsemanship and comradery. We all had a great day!

Diocesan Rugby Trials

On Monday the 24 May seven students travelled to Tamworth to compete in a 10s tournament that also served as a trial for selection into the Armidale Diocesan Team. As we were unable to form a team by ourselves, we combined with students from Armidale. Both groups gelled quickly, and in a sign of unity, called themselves Gunnedale. We played 4 games together and improved with each experience. All players tackled well, ran the ball with enthusiasm and supported their teammates. As a result we remained undefeated all day, but unfortunately were not eligible to play in the final as only teams from a whole school could go through to the next level.

Jedd Smallwood was then selected to play in the Possibles verses Probables game. He played well and was selected in the Diocesan Team to play in Forbes on 20/21 June. Congratulations Jedd and congratulations to everyone who played. They represented our school with great pride.

Polding Touch Trials

Last Friday, Jazmin Hobden travelled to Port Macquarie to compete at the Polding Touch Trials.

The talent on the Touch Football fields today was nothing short of amazing. The selectors had a very difficult job today to chose only 10 students to represent the Armidale Diocese.

Jazmin played exceptional touch all day amongst some very talented and competitive players. Unfortunately, Jazmin missed selection for the next level but she had a brilliant time and learned a lot.

Mineworkers Cup

On Thursday 20 May, 39 students participated in the Mineworker's Cup at Longmuir Playing Fields.

The senior girls Tag team played exceptionally all day and went through undefeated.

There were two teams in the Yrs 3/4 Division. One of the teams came first and the other came fifth. The senior boys team also had a great day coming home with 2nd place.

A special mention to Kade Bush who was awarded a Sportsmanship Award.
