Winner Reconciliation Week Colouring Competition

SRC Parent Teacher Night

The SRC was out in force running the Canteen for Years 8, 9 and 10 Parent Teacher Evening. It felt great to be back to our pre-COVID activities making tea and coffee for thirsty staff as well as selling baked goodies to hungry but generous parents. Thanks to all who supported us on Tuesday - we will be doing it all again on Tuesday 13 July for Years 7, 11 and 12.

Reconciliation Week Colouring Competition

To celebrate reconciliation week 27th of May to the 3rd of June , Canterbury Girls High School students engaged in some learning about reconciliation and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history. To celebrate the 2021 theme "More than a Word. Reconciliation takes action" the students were encouraged to take part in a colouring competition, an artwork called "Action" by Jessica Johnson. The Indigenous Leadership Group enjoyed going through all the entries and unanimously decided on the top 3.

Term 2 RUFTS Quiz Winners

(by Ms. Yen)

What a great term it has been for the 3-week Challenge - RUFTS Quiz winners!!!

Each winner received a $20 gift card from Officeworks.

Canterbury GHS started a RUFTS Quiz each term in Term 3 last year and it has been a great way of creating new brain cells for us. We’ve had an average of 40-50 entries for each week.

I thank all the participants for this LAST challenge for RUFTS. This term was our last term for promoting RUFTS. The aim of the RUFTS program is to assist our students to stop and think (using prompts) about what they are thinking when problem-solving.

We have used RUFTS with other strategies such as growth mindset (using mistakes as a learning opportunity to have a go) to help students improve in numeracy, and our school numeracy skills in Year 10 HSC Minimum Standard have improved significantly (35% increase since 2018).

Please continue to use RUFTS as often as you can and learn to master your problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

RUFTS

1. Read the Question

2. Understand  the Question (Look at Task words: doing words)

3. Filter the Question (Collect Keywords: information)

4. Think about the correct Formulas / Techniques

5. Solve and Check / Start writing with ALARM, PEEL, etc.

Why do we need to learn Problem-Solving skills?

When you learn problem-solving skills, it will help you to:*be better with people in general, like having positive relationships*avoid conflicts*strengthen your empathy skills *help you to learn more positive things about another person's intentions.

This is why it is crucial to learn and practise the problem-solving skills now!
