Principals Update

I hope this finds you and your families well. This will be my last update for the term as we move towards the winter holidays. Please see a few items below:

Drills

We will soon be holding a lockdown drill as part of our annual program set by Health and Safety. The drill will be short and students will be given a debrief by teachers after the drill regarding their following of the school procedures. If your student may require support during this drill, please let us know.

Parent Teacher Night

It was wonderful to see so many people at parent teacher night last night. I enjoyed talking to parents and students and thank you for your insights. I will be putting out a survey after our next parent teacher night in term 3 to get some feedback for our planning in 2022. We are aware from our previous survey that parents would like more opportunities for feedback and insights into what is happening in the classroom. We will be looking closely into this ready to trial some new ideas next year.

Strategic Improvement Plan

Our teams of teachers are busy taking a deep look at our student data and considering research in our three identified areas around differentiation for student growth and attainment, future-focused pedagogy and student learning and wellbeing systems. We report back regularly through the P&C about our progress in delivering the school plan. Please see the minutes on the website for regular updates about this and other school business. https://canterburg-h.schools.nsw.gov.au/parents-and-citizens.html

Trial HSC Exams

Students in year 12 will have their trial HSC examinations in Week 2 next term. The timetable is available on our website. I encourage students to make time for rest and study these holidays so that they can fell well prepared, but also re-energised for a busy run towards the HSC exams.

Winterfest

Tickets are now on sale for Winterfest- our annual music showcase. Tickets are limited to 200, so again, I request that families of our performers and crew are allowed a short window to buy tickets before the rest of the school community. Looking forward to seeing you there on the 24th.

All the best for the final few days of term.

'CLUE' The Musical

Congratulations to all those that participated as performers, musicians, design and production crews in our recently staged performances of 'Clue'.  The show attained excellence in presentation and was enjoyed by an array of different audiences.  Inclement weather diminished numbers for our Primary Schools Matinee however, the show must go on and for those attending it was a heart warming and enjoyable experience even if it was wet and cold outside.

This performance was entirely adapted and devised by students as a consequence of the Covid 19 pandemic.  Both the creation and rehearsal process was engineered to accommodate restrictions upon the numbers of students allowed to work together and in the knowledge that students needed to be confined within restriction year grouping.  In some ways the restrictions hampered however, they have also enabled opportunities for creativity.   Our students as always rose  to the occasion and overcame all obstacles.  They were scripted dialogue, composed music and lyrics and worked to provide all aspects of the Production from design, realization through to the staging and implementation for the performances.

Another highly successful Musical Production.
