ACTING PRINCIPAL

Mr. Nathan Black, Acting Principal

I am pleased to announce David Browne will return to the college, from leave, next term. Over the coming weeks David and I will be working closely together to ensure there is a smooth transition to minimise disruption to student learning.

This year a major focus of our work has been developing our Safe, Respectful Learning school culture and environment. There has been great improvement in this space over the last 5 months, with a great reduction in the number critical incidents. A part of this work, more recently, has been on developing improved ways to communicate with families about student engagement. To this end families will now receive a text message when a student is exited from class and encouraged to contact the class teacher via email. The exit process supports student engagement by recognising despite the interventions or de-escalation strategies in place some students need a break from their learning.

COVID Safe restrictions are in place. All staff, students, parents and visitors need to remember to wear a mask whenever in doors at school or using public transport and to sign in using the QR code or COMPASS.

This week the college exams took place. This is an important part of the senior student timetable by not only capturing student understanding of content covered so far, but also providing practice for students under exam conditions. Our senior students have done an amazing job applying themselves during the week, especially on the back of the week of lockdown. Thank you to the staff for their preparation and organisation in putting this together, especially Wendy Hateley for the hours of additional work pulling the timetable together. Greatly appreciated.

Semester 2 commences next week, following the long weekend. COMPASS will have been updated to reflect these changes this afternoon. We apologise for any confusion, as we’ve just become aware the timetable that already appears on COMPASS was from earlier in the year and the changes didn’t sync. If you have any concerns about these please email your child’s Year Level Co-ordinator or call the office.

Monday is a public holiday, Queen's Birthday holiday, and as such the college will be closed. Classes will resume on Tuesday, 15th June, 2021.

College Council meet next Wednesday at 7:30 pm. The meeting will take place at the college in the social staff room. The finance team will meet prior to this at 6:30 pm. College council would like to involve more families into different activities across the school. There is a wealth of knowledge and expertise across our school community and we could use the support.
