Around The Primary

Dear Parents,

Our teachers are very busy finishing off semester assessments and writing reports. On your behalf I thank them for their dedication and commitment which they make every day to provide a happy and positive learning environment. This appreciation is also extended to all our amazing education assistants for their continuous efforts.

To those who have sent a positive email after one of the many different class or whole school events this term, or simply recognised the care and effort that a staff member has given to your child in one way or another – many, many thanks!

Your words, or acts, of encouragement and thanks are valued and remind us that the extra things we do – really matter and make a difference.  Our staff work very hard to provide many wonderful learning opportunities and experiences.  They give much time and effort to all that they do, often quietly ‘behind the scenes’, in their own time, before school, after school and on weekends.  We are very blessed indeed to have such dedicated and caring professionals at John XXIII!

Last Wednesday, Lola Denton (6B) and Sam Gooch 6G) accompanied Miss Graves (Assistant Principal) to The Archbishop’s Launch of LifeLink. These students were wonderful ambassadors amongst the many other Catholic Primary school students in attendance. Each year our school community provides support to some of the LifeLink agencies through our various fundraising projects.

Learning from the best! Our Year 6s were visited by West Coast Eagles superstars Liam Ryan and Brad Sheppard who hosted a kicking and handballing clinic, followed by an in-depth Question and Answer session. They shared important messages of leadership and perseverance to inspire the students in their role as leaders of the Primary school. A great time was had by students and staff!

Every year, every school in Australia takes part in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). Information is provided about students to the Australian government from the data collection which includes:

  • Year of schooling (Personal details, such as student names are not provided)
  • Category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social emotional
  • Level of adjustment provided; support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice

Further information about the NCCD can be found by clicking on this LINK

 String Sounds

The Pre-Primary students had an exciting music class this week. Goldilocks and the Three Bears visited with their favourite instruments - the violin, viola, cello and double bass. The students listened to each instrument and discovered that bigger instruments make lower sounds, and smaller instruments make higher sounds. They were particularly impressed with the size of the double bass which was even taller than Mrs Haydon! The students took turns at playing the violin and double bass; feeling the difference in the strings and trying the bow.
