From the School Leadership Team,

From Mr. Chant,

Principal

This week has been an interesting one indeed. We had a great start to Education Week with the Specialists' Stay and Play afternoon. Unfortunately we had to adapt our plans for the rest of the week.

Our Book Sale was a huge success and many of our students added to their libraries by selecting some brand new and well read books from the selection available.

The Parent Committee kindly organised fruit platters for the classes and these were meant to be shared with families during our stay and play program at the end of each school day. The fresh fruit was a great hit and every student was able to access a snack as part of their school day.

Today is a designated Curriculum day and we are ready for a different week to start on Monday, with Remote and Flexible learning in operation and Essential Services program underway at the school for eligible students and families.

On Thursday morning, the announcement came that our state would go into a seven day lockdown due to the growing number of positive COVID-19 cases and rising number of exposure sites.  Our staff were able to quickly structure the program and prepare the material for distribution. Many thanks to all involved for their efforts and attention to detail in making sure we can be as ready as possible for the week ahead.

For many families next week is indeed a challenging one and we ask you to ensure that wellbeing for everyone is a priority. A good idea is to establish some expectations around your children engaging in the programs and being online (where possible) and that work expectations are a guide. Please use the additional resources from our website and learning packs to provide some variety and challenge.

Student work packs can be accessed on the website using the year level and program tabs.  (Click here) Families who need to collect student resources, pencils, diaries and reading materials can call in at the office.

If you have any issues please contact the class teacher in the first instance, or the office to clarify any of your concerns.

Compass will be the main method of communication during this period and make sure that you read any correspondence sent from the school.

We held the Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea for staff at the school yesterday.  Jointly TeamKids and CJC worked together to provide a lovely morning tea for staff.  We managed to collect $240.00 in donations.  Thank you to everyone involved.

During the week, many families may have taken the opportunity to view the amazing views from the heavens as we were able to watch the super blood moon together with a solar eclipse – a very rare sight indeed and it will be a long time before we see something like this again. We have included a photo from our Astronomer extraordinaire – Akshat, who snapped this great image using his telescope and iPhone.

We had planned to host a viewing at school but we needed to cancel this event.  We will schedule another stargazing activity for a date later in the year in the hope of better weather and no restrictions in place to limit attendances.

If anyone is interested in sponsoring our musical, Rock Bottom, please contact the school on caulfield.jr.co@education.vic.gov.au.

From Mme. Pommier,

French Director.

Dear parents and guardians,

Our week started with a wonderful outdoor Assembly to celebrate Education Week. It was a fantastic to see so many of our families and share these privileged moments with you.

The week is ending on a very different note, we hope that your family and loved ones are doing well under these trying circumstances.

Next week, your children can start the school work that their teachers provided for them on Thursday afternoon. Each morning, students and teachers will meet online for attendance marking. Please remind your children that frequent breaks, whether it is physical activity or relaxation, are essential to their wellbeing (as well as yours).

Our specialist teachers have also prepared an attractive and fun program to engage our students. A rehearsal for the musical will also take place online next week.

Please also remember that the 2022 applications for the French Binational Program must be received by Friday, 28 May 2021 (today). These can be sent electronically. The 2022 Prep enrolments will be announced at the end of the present term.

I wish you all a good weekend!
