Student Reflective Comments

When the mid-year Junior School reports are opened online this week, you will notice that in addition to the ‘Teacher Comment’, a ‘Student Reflective Comment’ takes pride of place. Each Junior School student has been given class time to reflect on their goals, achievements, and progress, and construct a paragraph that summarises their thoughts. Although the teachers have conferenced and given advice to students about their paragraph, the paragraphs are not ‘corrected’, therefore what is printed is truly written in the student’s own voice and is truly reflective of their current writing ability. Last year we received wonderful feedback regarding this addition to student’s reports, and we hope it will be welcomed by families again this year.

Founder’s Day 2021

2020 was an odd year (for an even number) given the COVID-19 pandemic, and Year 6 experienced their first Founder’s Day Mass and Concert in their own classrooms, livestreamed or broadcast, thanks to the hard work and dedication of College staff members and Year 12 students. Consequently, this Friday’s Founder’s Day commemorations will be the first in person, in situ celebration for both Year 5 and Year 6 and we are so excited about this!

I love to listen to my colleagues who are Old Boys recount their memories of Founder’s Day. Like Supporter’s Day, these are the days that live in memory long after this lesson or that lesson has been forgotten. Amongst all the fun and festivities, please be sure to chat with your boys about the meaning of Founder’s Day – have him tell you about Blessed Edmund Rice and the Christian Brothers, and what remembering and honouring their story means to him.

Many, many thanks in advance also goes to all the volunteers who will help to make this Friday a very special day.

And…best wishes for a wonderful long weekend!

God Bless.
