Year One News

Hi Year One families,

We have had an amazing incursion from Wild Action, the zoo that comes to you. Thirteen Australian animals visited us, and it was a wonderful experience to see them up close and learn about their features and how they adapt to their environments. Just in case you think your child might have exaggerated how big the snake was, let me tell you that it was ENORMOUS! The opportunity to touch the creatures was offered to all students, with most of them taking up the challenge. Several students were also asked to hold a creature if they felt comfortable. Our presenter was very knowledgeable and shared really interesting information with us. We are very proud of our students who touched a snake, had a tree frog sit on their hand, stroked a giant bush cockroach, or petted a baby crocodile. The highlight of the visit would have to have been the joey, who hopped sleepily around. Some teachers cuddled him and most wanted to keep him! I am not sure what Ruby, our school dog, would think about that! After our visit, the Year Ones wrote about their experience, and it was evident how much they enjoyed it.

Here are a few snippets:

“It was the best day of my life!”

“I felt fabulous. It was amazing!”

“I loved Wild Action. I give Jannik (presenter) a 10 out of 10!”

To find out more about the visit, try asking your child:

Which was your favourite creature and why was it your favourite?

What was the most interesting fact you learnt?

How would you describe the joey?
