Calculating Solutions in STEM

Last week 24 Year 10 students had the opportunity to experience STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities supported by Geelong Tech.

On Monday the students carried out some physics calculations then raced their individually designed model cars against each other on a 20m high speed track.

On Tuesday morning students tried some painting and other activities with VR headsets which proved very popular.

During the afternoon drones became the focus and the students had to bring their programming and maths skills into play as well as trying not to crash the drones in the busy airspace.

A bus trip to Geelong Tech on Friday provided further opportunities in STEM activities. The students tried their hand at design then laser-etched their creative pieces into take-home souvenirs.

In another activity students were provided a design brief to make miniature mini-golf courses with various mandatory electronic features included. Their creativity, electronics and programming skills were well tested and all successfully came up with four interesting and workable models.

Well done to all and we thank Geelong Tech for providing further opportunities for our students to experience what STEM has to offer.
