National Sorry Day

On Thursday 27th May, a group of students from Years 5 to 10 attended the Dhiiyaan Centre for the opening event of Reconciliation Week; the Bridge Walk. After an engaging ceremony, with particular mention to Aunty Colleen's speech, all of the attendees walked over the Dr. Geoffrey Hunter Bridge. The students commented on the event being a valuable experience as it brought together many indigenous and non-indigenous people in the community to celebrate reconciliation. Another said that Kara Roberts' performance gave her goosebumps with the rendition of My Island Home.

Welcome, Jett!

We have been lucky enough to welcome Jett Sampson as a new Aboriginal Educational Assistant (AEA) to St Philomena's. Jett has been connected with St Philomena's since he was a student, and we are excited to have him back with us working to support students and the school.

AEA and Focus Teacher Meeting

On 31st May and 1st June, Shirley Johnson, Jett Sampson and Hanne Pedersen attended a meeting in Bingara with Sharon Cooke, Gary Burdett and other staff from schools across the Armidale Diocese. The purpose of the meeting was to review the important work that we are all doing, and combine minds to recognise achievements but to also critically reflect on how we can improve the great work we are doing.
