ADFA Careers Presentation

On Wednesday 2 June, Stage 5 students attended an Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) presentation. The students were lucky enough to hear some engaging stories and interesting experiences from two navy and one army personnel, as well as what it is like to study, work and train whilst at ADFA. Some of the students even won prizes in a Q&A session!

Midkin Cotton

Stage 5 Agriculture were immersed in the Cotton Industry through their Midkin excursion. This trip allowed students to engage with industry professionals and experience the many processes of cotton in our area.

We were very fortunate to have Dr Janelle Montgomery from CottonInfo accompany us on this trip. Her knowledge of the industry and Gwydir area was second to none and made the excursion memorable.

The students observed the picking and ginning processes up close - allowing them to see what they have been learning in the classroom in their local area.

When we returned to school, students conducted a trial on soil microbes by planting cotton underwear in various locations around the school. Over time, students will check on the underwear to see whether the natural fibre breaks down in its various locations. If the fibres break down, it will give us a conclusive result of the activity of microbes in our soil - we will keep you posted!

Stage 5 would like to thank everyone who assisted in making this day possible!
