R.L.P 4.0

Within successful organisations, ‘culture eats strategy for breakfast.’  Throughout 2020 the College built a strong culture of tackling remote learning head on and making the most of our opportunities.  Whilst RLP 4.0 is not how we hoped we would be learning in Term Two, I must congratulate our Junior School learning community for their collective efforts this week.  On Monday we were straight back into our remote learning stride and working to the best of our abilities.  We look forward to having the students back on Friday.

ICAS REACH Spelling

Last week, our Year 2-6 students sat the ICAS REACH Spelling assessment.  This online tool provides class teachers with important data that track individual and cohort progress.  The top performing students in each year level were:

Year 2 - Adelaide Farquharson

Year 3 - Poppy Edgar

Year 4 - Andrew Sun

Year 5 - Frederick Milne

Year 6 - Ned White (6LR)

Push Up Challenge

1 June marks the start of a 25 day ‘Push Up Challenge.’  This nationwide push for better health initiative aims for participants (individuals or teams) to complete 3318 push ups in 25 days.  Why 3318 I hear you ask?  This number is significant because it was the number of Australian lives lost in 2019 to mental health related conditions.  At the Junior School we will be focusing on 3318 families affected by mental health in 2019.  The initiative is supported by Headspace, Lifeline and the Push for Better Foundation.  The Junior School has a community page.  Parents and guardians are most welcome to join us and complete push ups that will contribute to our total.  There is also an App that allows you to quickly tally your push ups.  Individual/groups can aim to complete 25%, 50%, 75% or 100 % of the 3318 total.

IPSHA Leadership Day - Geelong

Last Thursday Mrs. Milich and I took eight of our Junior School leaders - Chloe Laidlaw, Rupert Merrin, Amelia Bradbeer, Jack Wallis, Finley Hiscock, Marianna Novikov, Millie Mould and Sam O’Sullivan to Geelong College for an engaging day targeting school leadership.  Our students were grouped with students from Ballarat Grammar, Southern Cross College, Geelong College and Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar School.  The day was focused on team leadership and the notion of ‘followership’.  Followership is the willingness to cooperate in working toward the accomplishment of defined goals while demonstrating a high degree of interactive teamwork. Effective followers are active participants (partners) in creating the leadership process.  Followers permit leaders to establish and keep themselves in control of a situation that is productive, efficient, and people-oriented.  Our Junior School leaders took part in a number of problematic team challenges throughout the day. They were all excellent ambassadors for the College.

Hoop Time - Years 3 and 4

This year, Hoop Time will be offered to our Year 3 and Year 4 students. The event will take place on Thursday 22 July (Week 2 of Term Three). Unfortunately, we will not be in able to field Year 5/6 teams on Monday 26 July as this local Hamilton date clashes with a prearranged ‘Books to Life’ incursion.
