We are very excited to offer our first Kindergarten Readiness Expo. Parents and carers are invited to come and join in with our panel of experts, while we discuss the best ways to support our children in their preparation for Kindergarten. Please see the flyer below that includes all the details for this very important event.
Last Friday we held our annual Year 6 Leadership Day in the St Edward's Parish Hall. The aim of this day was to provide our students with opportunities to listen and engage with keynote speakers about leadership, and to interact with their peers through discussions and activities about what it means to be a Year 6 leader at St Edward's School.
We were extremely lucky to have the following keynote speakers address the students:
Nathan Parker (Commercial Pilot, Invictus Games Gold Medalist and NSW Young Australian of the Year 2021).
Nathan Parker is a truly amazing and inspirational person and has the qualities of persisting to get through tough situations, and looking at himself in a different perspective. He connects to the six ups by showing up and doing things even if it is hard, speaking up and telling his story, never giving up by continuing to complete things even when they get tough, teaming up through the Invictus games on the Australian team, lifting others up by encouraging people to do their best even if something negative comes their way and finally looking up by looking at himself in a different perspective and seeing the positive things about him, not the negative things. - Riley Miller Year 6
Dr. Fiona Moore (Westpac Helicopter Retrieval and Emergency Doctor)
Dr. Moore told us about the amazing people who go on the missions with her, how the helicopter works and where all of the medical stuff to help her patients is kept. She works hard, never gives up and shows all 6 Ups. She has influenced me because she had to wait 13 years to reach her goal and now she finally has and she never gave up on the way.
Lara Cartan - Year 6
Hon. Kevin Anderson MP - (Member for Tamworth and State Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation)
Mr. Anderson is a person who is loyal towards the community and helps anyone no matter who they are. I bet you never knew this but the Honorable Kevin Anderson never finished high school but that didn't stop him from getting involved in politics. He got into politics after years of helping in is hometown of Tamworth, when someone he knew told him he should get involved in politics so he can help as many people as possible.
- Alyssa Whyte & Alamia Myers Year 6
It was so pleasing to see how our Year 6 leaders interacted with the speakers and asked thoughtful and insightful questions. They also showed maturity and respect when discussing how we can use the "6 Ups" to influence who we are as leaders at St. Edward's school. We would like to thank Mr. Short, Miss Parker and Mrs. Lockwood for all their help running the day and to Mrs. Ashford for organising the resources for the day.
Have a great week,
Alison Hatton and Pete Flynn
