Principal Reflections

A message from Dr Jake

Dear Parents & Friends,

St Edward's Parish Jubilee Year

On Sunday 23rd May, our parish is launching its Jubilee year at our 9:00am Mass. This is an exciting time for our parish community as we celebrate, not just 60 years of parish life but also the contributions of families to the betterment of our community.

Our first Parish Priest was Fr Edward Meehan and he started our parish from scratch. According to Kitty Thomas' book, "The Church on the Hill", Fr Meehan:

....borrowed a caravan, parked it and his car behind the Robert Street building and lived and worked from there...
Ten years later in 1971 the parish had a convent, presbytery, parish hall, four infants classrooms, a new primary school on the land purchased in Hillvue Road in 1962 and a remarkable, loyal parish spirit...

Many of our parents may remember the old church in Robert Street which has been refurbished into our Infants school. Maybe there are some grandparents with old photos of the church and functions from the first decade of our parish's life. If so we would love to grab a copy. Please pop into either the Infants or Primary Campus and our receptionists will copy them straight away. We will use the photos in a future display.

Other important dates, as shared in the Parish Bulletin include:

  • Sunday 17/10/2021: 9.00am Thanksgiving Mass - Bp. Michael Kennedy
  • Sunday 17/10/2021: 2.00pm Parish Lunch @ Carmen’s (details TBA) with a presentation on the life of Saint Edward by: Steve Cunneen, PhD
  • Wednesday 13/10/2021: Feast of St Edward, King & Confessor

  • Tuesday 24/05/2022: 11.00 am Solemnity of Mary Help of Christians; Jubilee Year Closing Mass, Concelebrated Mass with the priests of the Diocese of Armidale.

We look forward to our Year 3 & Year 6 Family Mass on Sunday.

As always feel free to drop in and say hello when you visit St Edward’s. Have a great weekend.

Peace & Best Wishes.
