Assistant Principal's Report

Mr. Nathan Wallace

Assistant Principal

As we progress through term 2, it’s been fantastic seeing students returning to extra-curricular activities such as excursions and sports days; things that we have sorely missed in the past couple of years. Last week’s athletics carnival was a celebration of house spirit, enjoyed in the beautiful sunshine at the Sale Athletics Track. Well done to Brett Hudson and the staff involved in organising the day. It was great to see parents supporting the students and everyone enjoying the day.

This time of year is also a busy period, with multiple opportunities for our students to provide and receive feedback about their learning and learning growth.

NAPLAN

Our year 7 and 9 students have just completed four NAPLAN tests for Reading, Writing, Conventions of Language (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy. Students conducted themselves respectfully throughout the testing period. Hopefully the online testing platform will provide students and parents with feedback in a timelier manner than in the past. NAPLAN in 2023 will be conducted in March.

REPORTING & ASSESSMENT

All students received feedback about their ORGANISATION, EFFORT, PERSISTENCE, EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR, RESPECT and ACADEMIC STANDARD through Progress Reports in week 5. These results can be accessed on COMPASS. Students are encouraged to celebrate any excellence in their performance, growth in their learning and also engage in conversations with their teachers about how to achieve further improvement in their learning behaviours.

Students in years 10, 11, 12 have upcoming exams during week 8. These exams will be conducted at Maffra Memorial Hall and will be supervised by VCAA examiners. Students in years 7-10 should be finishing off Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) and receiving feedback about what they are learning and what they need to do next to progress their learning. This feedback will be collated and reported along with standards from the Victorian Curriculum in the Semester Reports. Semester Reports will be published and available for viewing on COMPASS in the last week of term.

ATTITUDES TO SCHOOL SURVEY

All students will be asked to provide feedback about the school through the Attitudes to School Survey (ATSS). There are three key sections to the state-wide ATSS:

  • Learning
  • Experience at School
  • Student Health & Wellbeing

Responses are anonymous and provide valuable feedback that will be used as part of our improvement cycle to continue our improvement as a school. Many of the new School Strategic Plan targets are based on ATSS feedback.
