Andrews Cup Cross Country

The AC Cross Country Carnival has now been rescheduled to Wednesday 15 June. 

Please refer to the email sent home on Thursday 2 June for further details and complete the link regarding your acknowledgment of this new date. 

 

There will be additional training sessions next week on the College Oval for all runners:

Andrews Cup Athletics 

AC Athletics training will commence at the start of Term 3.  Keep an eye on this space for details regarding training dates and times.  

 

The Primary Interhouse Athletics Carnival for Years 2 to 6 will be held in Term 3 along with the Pre-Prep to Year 1 Fun Day. A ‘Save the Date’ to be published shortly. 

 

Andrews Cup Football (Soccer) 

Years 4 to 6

The Andrews Cup Football Competition is being contested next Tuesday 7 June in Toowoomba. Parents/Caregivers of participating students have already received an email with detailed information about this event. Please ensure that you have clicked the link within the email sent, to indicate your daughter’s transport arrangements.  

 

Andrews Cup Netball 

Years 4 to 6

Thank you to all girls who trialled. The team lists now appear on the Primary Sport noticeboard. Congratulations to those students who have been selected for the Junior and Senior Teams for 2022.

 

The following criteria were considered whilst girls were trialling-

level of ball control; speed and agility; the ability to recover quickly; the ability to listen and respond to feedback; even temperament; and the ability to communicate.

 

Training continues next week for all team members on Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm. 

 

A reminder that the correct sports uniform is to be worn to each training session. No jewellery is to be worn, and this includes watches. Earrings must be removed or taped before the session, and fingernails must be no longer than the tips of the fingers. Every player must bring a named water bottle.

 

Please remember - Students who are not collected from the Courts at the conclusion of training will be escorted to Circular Drive. 

 

If you are unable to collect your child after training at 5:00 pm, please book them into the Outside Hours Care Service (OHCS).  Students not collected from the courts or from Circular Drive at 5:00 pm will be escorted to OSHC (this will be at the centre cost of $53.50). OSHC closes at 6:30 pm. Please note that students are not permitted to walk to Bayview Terrace for pick-up for safety reasons. 

 

Please contact Mrs. Richardson if your child is unwell and unable to attend training.

 

Andrews Cup Swimming

Years 2 to 6

Training continues on Friday afternoon from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm. We would love as many swimmers as possible to join these sessions to maintain their fitness. The final session for Term 2 will be held on Friday afternoon 10 June.

Reminder that the boys are to meet Mr. Woods at 8:00 am, Friday, 3 June at the tuckshop. It is highly recommended that warm and windproof (i.e. polar fleece) clothing is worn under the school tracksuit as the forecast is for cold and windy conditions at Ipswich. A spare pair of shoes would also be advisable as the course can be muddy. Boys can collect their race singlet at 1:15 pm on Thursday from Primary reception and return it laundered to Mr. Woods the following week.

 

Britton Shield Football (Soccer)

The Britton Shield Football Carnival has now been re-scheduled to Friday 15 July.   Training will continue until the end of Term 2 and for the first day of Term 3. 

 

Training is on the following dates for primary schoolboys:

Students are to wear their Clayfield College PE uniform to all training sessions and bring a named water bottle. On Fridays, they are to also bring fruit and/or jelly in their lunch box which they can eat during a designated break time in training. Time will be set aside after the training session to eat the remainder of their lunch. On Mondays, can Years 4 to 6 parents please ensure that they arrange to pick up their child from Circular Drive at 4:30 pm and NOT Bayview Terrace.

 

Communication about the carnival will be sent to parents of those students nominated shortly.  Please ensure you click on the link to verify your child's nomination in the team and provide permission to compete at the carnival.

Semester 2 Britton Shield Sport

Next Semester, Cricket and AFL will be on offer.  Could any parent who would like their son participate in aquathon please send an Expression of Interest to Mr. Woods before 16 June. Secondary Sport

QGSSSA Cross Country

The final recovery and refresh training session will occur Friday morning for all team members prior to our team breakfast. The team all received a Team Kit on assembly this week to ensure they were kitted out and ready for Saturday 4 June at John Paul College, Daisy Hill. 

 

Please see a copy of the course map and program for the day below. We wish all our girls well for their event and look forward to celebrating our achievements next week.

Winter Sports – Pre-season Training

In all winter sports, we are still looking for a few more girls across each year level to make up teams. We are short 1 to 3 players in all sports across some of the teams that will ensure we have the depth and numbers required to commit to the whole season. If your daughter has not yet signed up and would like to, please contact the Sports department asap on sport@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

Winter Sports Camp

During the final week of Term 2, the College will once again aim to host a Sports Camp aimed at all winter fixture sports and Athletics. A draft itinerary can be found below.

 

All girls involved in winter fixtures and athletics are encouraged to attend. The camp caters for 50 – 65 girls and a minimum of 50 must-attend for the camp to go ahead. Please ensure you book your daughter's place before Friday 3 June.

Location:    Gold Coast Performance Centre, Runaway Bay

Cost:            $290 (including a $50 subsidy from the P&F for every student who attends)

Sports Awards Dinner 

16 November 2022 – Date Claimer

The College has confirmed Cloudland, the Rose Room as the venue for this year's Sports Awards Dinner. The cost will be around $75 per person for a two-course sit-down meal with cake for dessert. Further details will be released closer to the date.

Volleyball Academy

Monday’s 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Any students who are interested in joining the Volleyball Academy, please read the attached information and application form and return to Ms. Barnes in Room 1 of the Sports Office. All sessions occur in the College PE centre.

Clayfield College Tennis Program

Friends of Sport Group

The next Friends of Sport Group meeting is this coming Thursday and the group is encouraging willing and active parents to come along to meet and assist with initiatives that support sport within the College.  The full schedule for meetings is listed below, and these meetings are for anyone interested in supporting the endeavours of the College’s Sports Department. Your assistance will support Britton Shield, Andrews Cup and QGSSSA sports within the College. Meetings are generally held in the College Boardroom. Staff Farewell

Student Achievements

Summer Meis and Milla Markovic (Year 7) - Basketball

Congratulations to Summer Meis and Milla Markovic, who recently played in the Met North 10 to 12-year girls basketball team in Mackay. They made it to the Bronze medal game over the weekend and finished 4th in the State. Well done, girls!

 

 

 

Imogen Davies (Year 7) - Gymnastics

On Friday, Imogen competed at the 360 Invitational and was placed 2nd All-Around in L6 U12. Imogen's achievements were:

5th on floor
6th on vault

She has also been selected to represent Delta at the QLD State Club Championship and has qualified for the individual QLD State Championships.  Great work Imogen!

 

 

Mia Geere (Year 9) - AFL

With the conclusion of the recent Met North AFL carnival in Hervey Bay Mia was selected in the Queensland team that will be playing in the National championships at the end of July in Lavington.

 

If the photos are anything to go by, Mia certainly gave it everything and well and truly earned her spot in the Queensland team. Well done, Mia.

Sport Vacancies at Clayfield

Clayfield College Casual Referees/Umpires (Netball and Volleyball)

We are seeking experienced and qualified casual referees/umpires for our Saturday morning fixtures throughout Term 3 for Netball 1 – 2 games per week and Volleyball 1 – 3 games per week. The games will take place on Saturday mornings from Saturday 15 July – Saturday 10 October.

 

Requirements:

The ability to help us deliver a fun, safe and fair environment for students to play sport, possess solid refereeing and/or umpiring experience or accreditation, ideally in a school or junior sports program, ability to provide evidence of COVID-19 vaccination or proof or a valid medical exemption and must possess a current, valid Blue Card or the ability to obtain one

 

Remuneration

Will be negotiated dependent on qualifications and experience.
