IRC Transformation

When we are younger we are told of the wonder of butterflies. They grow and grow until they decide to emerge from their chrysalis, an ignition of their wings so resembling a passionate flame. Many of us spend our entire lives trying to mirror the process in an attempt to be successful or happy or proud of ourselves – I know I certainly do. Over the past couple of weeks, the IRC, too, has gone through a gradual yet exciting transformation. Ms Lal, as well as the IRC Leaders for 2022, have been spending lunchtimes dismantling and assembling bookshelves, moving tables, and shifting books to give the IRC a newer appearance – which prominently assists in more accessibility of resources and creating more space for study. Regardless of what day it was and whose duty it was to attend the IRC as per the daily roster, all

the IRC Leaders came along as a team to support Ms Lal. Personally, helping out was not boring in any case – one of my most memorable moments was when Peter, Sanjana, Rhianna and I were shifting books from the previous shelves to the newer location. As Peter would pass bundles of books at a time through the rectangular spaces of the shelves, Rhianna, Sanjana and I would pick them up and put them on the allocated shelves, a soft thud reverberating underneath.

The moment was almost magical – perhaps it truly tells us how we should cherish the process instead of chasing our final destination. We are building our worlds, in this case, with books, and ultimately, it seems that the IRC proves to be a providence for many of us here at Nossal. I know it certainly does for me.
