What has been happening in the Performing Arts room?
Over the last two weeks, Prep students have been learning about crotchets, quavers and crotchet rests. They have played short rhythms and melodies on a range of instruments, learnt how to write rhythms using notation and tested their listening skills by playing 'Rhythm Bingo'!
Ever since attending a Wiggles concert with my family a a couple of months ago, I have had one of their cover songs, a peppy rendition of the Irish song "Rattlin' Bog", bouncing around in my head. It is one of those songs that you can't shake no matter how hard you try. I decided to embrace this and share the song with our Grade One and Two students. This term, we have been tackling learning this challenging little tune and it has been a delight. We have devised choreography, created body percussion to perform the rhythm, played the melody on Boomwhackers and talked about the musical elements. Many students have asked me for the details so they can share what they are working on with you at home. If your child would like to practice, the song is available on Spotify and Youtube, "ABC Kids and Mick McHugh - The Rattlin' Bog."
