Spare Puppets Theatre

All Year Seven students were treated to a Spare Parts Puppet Theatre performance on tuesday. This is part of their regional tour. The Japanese story of Hachiko was performed in the Hall by two performers, Kylie and Shaun. It is a wonderful true story of a dog’s great loyalty to his owner, Hachiko famously waited for ten years for his owner at a Tokyo railway station. A large statue was erected in his honour in 1935 when he died.

The play had an engaging narrative and a minimal, Japanese-inspired set with lots of inventive usage of paper. There were beautifully constructed puppets used throughout the play. This tour is sponsored by Healthways.

This Tuesday the 31st of May we had the pleasure of seeing the performance “Hachiko” by the Spare Parts Puppet Theatre. The production was complete with an ingenious set design emanating several aspects of Japanese culture and art style. The puppets, shaped and modelled to look like folded origami, as well as set pieces and costumes that were made only of cardboard, made the connection of this being an important tale within Japanese history. The storytelling aspects of the play were masterfully achieved through strong characterisation that we found greatly enjoyable. - Daisy Baker

Art Focus Day

On Tuesday 28 June we will have our annual Arts Focus Day.  All Year Eight students are invited to choose one of nine workshops to participate in. We have guest local artists coming into the school. These include Kirsten Sivyer offering a colour theory and painting workshop, Nathan Bray offering ceramics, Colin Montefiore and cartooning and book illustration, Shandell Cummings is giving a Noongar expressive painting workshop, Simon Woodward is running a Drama improvisation session, Cassie Turner is offering juggling and acrobatics, Penny Baker is giving a watercolour painting workshop, Lois Drygan is giving a mosaic workshop and Nadja Roleufs is leading a felting and textiles workshop. Students will be able to take home anything they create in the session and it is intended to be an enjoyable afternoon being creative. We’re very lucky to have such talented artists coming to the school.
