From the Acting Deputy Principal

On Friday last week the Year Nine leaders helped to plant five saplings in the Middle School yard. These five trees hold some significance in the school's work towards a more sustainable campus, as they were funded by the Containers for Change recycle program.

At school we have three bins with white lids to collect drink containers for students to use and there is also the large receptacles outside the gym, where parents can drop off containers. The Junior School have smaller bins that are then added to the big bins. And in boarding there is a white lidded bin outside the Dining Hall. All of the proceeds are going towards providing more trees for the school.

The Year Nine leaders learnt about the WA Peppermint trees that they planted from our grounds manager, Mr Andrew Blake, who explained that they are native to this area and will provide shelter for local birds and of course provide shade. The students felt a sense of giving back as they know that they won’t sit under these trees at recess and lunch but our junior students will benefit from them in years to come. They also realised it takes a bit of effort to dig the perfect hole and it became a little competitive! If you do have any containers at home please bring them in and drop them in the bins near the gym as we want to plant a lot more trees, while saving these containers from landfill.

This week the Year Twelves commenced their exams. While it has been an unsettled term with COVID I really admire the way they have gone about their studies and stuck to the task. Mrs Turnor and Ms Couper have opened the Library up on Sunday afternoons and about 15 students have taken advantage of the study space, and Ms Couper’s home-made cake has definitely helped. Year Twelves have now finished their exams and we wish the Year Tens and Elevens all the best as they prepare for their exams in coming weeks.

I hope everyone enjoys the extended long weekend, especially our boarding students, who get to go home and see family and pat the dog.
