STEM Chemical Science with Year 3s and 4s

Over the last fortnight the year 3s and 4s have been collaborating to investigate the properties of various man-made and natural materials, what they are used for and their absorbency or waterproof qualities. A ‘mind blowing’ investigation as one child excitedly called out was adding drops of water to various leaves in which students discovered some leaves repelled water or appeared to be waterproof. On further investigation we discovered the Lotus Effect which refers to the self-cleaning and extreme water repellance abilities of some leaves such as the lotus, nasturtium, and agave. An incredible plant adaptation.

It is great to see students asking fantastic questions of each other and working so collaboratively whilst carrying out their science investigations.
