Principal's Message

Term 1 is nearly over and what a busy beginning to the year it has been! All classes have settled in to their spaces and the shift of an additional class to our George Street building has gone well. Our teacher Julia has created a welcoming and comfortable learning environment for her Year 1 and 2 class in a room that was previously the school’s computer lab. The reduced number of classes in our Napier Street building has created a much calmer environment for our older students and the shift of our Kitchen Garden Program to a Wednesday has been successful. Our new Foundation students have settled in to their full time program and have commenced their Wednesday French immersion program and are thoroughly enjoying sessions run by our new French teacher, Rebecca.
Our newly refurbished office space opened at the beginning of the term and the school has recently added fresh signage to these spaces and will be working towards some new line-marking and fencing at the front of the George Street building to complement the completed renovated entrance and reception. The school plans to officially ‘open’ the new spaces as part of our program of Open Days in Term 2.
‘Homework Club’ has been a huge success with parents enthusiastically registering their children to attend each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. We acknowledge that there is a great demand for afterschool activities and the school is exploring partnering with other organisations to provide a more substantial afterschool activities program. Expanding such programs will likely involve a cost to parents, but we will endeavour to keep such costs to a minimum.
I recently posted information for parents to Compass regarding vacant parent positions on School Council. Membership on School Council provides parents with an opportunity to become directly involved with discussions and decisions that shape the future direction of the school. The school encourages and values parent contributions and participation and, therefore, I have extended the timeline for parent nominations. I strongly encourage any parents interested in joining School Council to complete a nomination form and submit this to the school by 4pm on Monday 18/3/2019. There is an information sheet about School Council Parent nomination in Office news.
Part of the work of School Council will be the establishment of a committee to help guide the development of a French Bilingual Program over the coming years. As a parent, if you’d like to be involved in the French Bilingual Program Committee, please contact the school for information regarding when the committee will be meeting.
