Week 3 Term 2

Welcome back to what is going to be a bumper term of action at Brooke Avenue PS. I hope everyone had a great Easter and a wonderful holiday. A special welcome to our new families who have recently joined us.   The first 3 weeks of the term have been busy and it has been great to see all of our students engaged in their learning.  Thank you to all our parents for helping to make our start to the term positive.  A positive and encouraging relationship between our school and the community will always benefit our students.

NAPLAN

Our Year 3 and 5 students sat NAPLAN in week 3.  This test is designed to provide a snapshot of academic the levels nationwide.  It is not an indicator of a child’s success or failure.  Our school uses it as a diagnostic tool, in conjunction with school based assessment, to improve our teaching and learning strategies and to guide our future directions.  Please continue to remind your children of all the great attributes they have that are not assessed by NAPLAN.

ANZAC

I had the pleasure of attending the ANZAC commemorative ceremony and march in the holidays.  ANZAC day is a most significant day in the Australian calendar and our students ensured that the ceremony was fitting of the men and women who have served our country.  Many thanks to all of our community who attended I am sure you would join with me in congratulating our children on their presentation.

Athletics Carnival

Another year, another great great Athletics Carnival.  Thank you to all involved.  The Mingara fields are a great venue but spectators are a little distance from the children.  We greatly appreciate all of our parents abiding by the rules of the ground and are considering binoculars for next year.

Staffing

On behalf of the staff and community we would like to congratulate Mrs Natalie Gillett who has been successful at merit joining BAPS permanently as an Assistant Principal.  She will continue in her current role as our Deputy Principal.

LED Sign

Signpac will commence work on our our LED sign this week.  All being well and weather permitting this work should be completed by the end of Week 4.  Many thanks to our wonderful P&C for supporting this project.

Our Canteen

Unfortunately our canteen will not be able to continue in its current form.  I am seeking approval for the school to go back to tender.  I will update our community as this process continues.  The canteen will cease operation at the end of week 4.  I will share more information with our comnuity as it comes to hand.

Once again, welcome back. I hope to see as many parents as possible within our school ensuring the students can witness the partnership we are strengthening between home and school.
