Word of the Month: Honesty

Theme: Falcons Soaring Together

Mission: To successfully develop intellectually curious, self-confident and self- reliant young people for the betterment of a future global society.

A recurring theme for me this week has been growth. The way growth translates into our emotional state is in feelings of discomfort. When we begin this process we begin to feel uncomfortable, uneasy, and even a desire to go back to how things were. I can tell you with certainty these past two months have been one of sitting in discomfort and feeling a little different. I realized that is because I have been growing  into a  more confident leader.

I have seen growth at our site in many areas. We have had at least 4 residents, at one point, at Firestone. They are learning and putting to practice instructional pedagogy, classroom management strategies, etc. They are only able to do this with mentors who are themselves growing in their practice, as they fine tune their own classroom routines and procedures and instructional practices. While teammates have been on leave I have seen other teammates step up and in the process grow in their own leadership skills.

When we try new things we tend to feel uneasy or even scared but doing this helps us become more creative and get out of our comfort zones. I encourage you to find ways to grow either professionally or personally by trying something new or challenging!

Here is an easy breezy read on what happens when we move out of our comfort zone.
