Principal's Message

Mr Forrest

End of Semester 1

It's hard to believe we are fast approaching the finish to Semester 1, 2021.  What a roller coaster of a Semester it has been!! However, we have been lucky to only experience two small lockdowns, here's hoping they will become a thing of the past.

We have a number of school camps on our return from the term break. They are Year 9 Bogong Snow Camp,  Year 11 Camp and Grade 5/6 Somers Camp.

An exciting new event for the Primary School students is the Mini Olympics to be held on Friday 6 August - more details to follow next term.

We will also catch up on Information Nights for Year 7, VCE/VCAL 2022 VCE/VCAL.

The VCE/VCAL meeting will be an important one as we will be explaining the changes to Year 11 & 12 that will be in place in Victoria by 2023.

Don't forget it is an early finish next Friday at 2:30 p.m. I wish you all a very safe Mid Year Winter holiday break.

Facilities Improvements

Following on from our upgrade to the Music Hub, we are currently in the middle of more facility improvements around the college. New storage and shelving has been purchased and installed in the library. Other new projects that are underway includes a new Junior Art room at the front of the school. A new Teachers Resource Room is currently underway along with the reorganising of the BER facility. We are in the process of switching the VCAL room and the Mathematics room, both areas having new furniture and resources added in.   The VCAL room will then become part of a new three room hub design with an upgraded Woodwork room including a new Canteen/College Café facility. Hopefully this will be completed in Term 3.   During the holidays we are expecting the long waited arrival of our new maintenance shed which will result with the removal the old smaller green shed.  We are hoping in Term 3 we will be able to share with you plans for future technology upgrades.

Will the Primary School Children Make It!

Mr Lockhart & Mr Forrest have issued a challenge to the children in the Primary area of Wedderburn College to read a total of 3000 nights combined before the end of term. Reading sessions have to be signed by a parent and extra bonus reading sessions will be awarded over weekends.

Remember if the students are successful, Mr Forrest has to dress up as a princess and Mr Lockhart as a fairy - (I'd like to see that) for the day and cook pancakes for students.  Stay tuned and continue reading.

Please Support the Wedderburn Communities  Push for Childcare, Before & After School Care

For many of you childcare is not a major issue as you have your children enrolled at school.  What we really need is for you to support the concept of having a Childcare Centre in our community for future generations to benefit from  - 'big picture thinking.'   I encourage you all to please sign the petition and fill in the survey, as all forms of childcare would make a huge difference to families in Wedderburn and surrounding districts.

Special Petition  Date  Extended until late July

Attached to last weeks newsletter was a petition which needs to be completed in hard copy. We cannot submit the petition online.   Please print off a copy of the petition and have friends, family members and neighbours sign it.  Thanks to those families who have already completed it.  The deadline for petitions has been extended so please take your time over the next month to have family, friends and neighbours sign.

Forms can be returned to School or to Steel's Butchers.

Out & About Last Week

It was all about the experience of the 5/6 Billabong Camp last week and what a great time the students had.   Secretly I think all staff enjoyed the experience.  I would like to thank Miss Kirk, Miss Van de Wetering, Ms Deocampo and Mr Lockhart for attending the camp. The students are to be congratulated for their behaviour and representing the school in such a positive manner.
