Ms. Christine Barnes - Head of Health, Wellness and Sport

Winter fixtures have commenced with both our senior Volleyball and Tennis girls playing on Tuesday afternoon here at Clayfield. All four teams were very competitive; however, SPLC proved to be the stronger team on the day. All our junior teams and the other winter sports will play their first-round matches this Saturday morning. Please note, winter fixtures usually take place on Saturday mornings; however, there are sometimes exceptions such as with Tennis where BGGS and St Margaret’s play Friday afternoon fixtures and where it clashes with other school events. Also note, transport to and from games is generally private transport. The College will provide a bus this week and in Week 3 when we head to IGGS; however, for all other fixtures, private transport is required.

Please refer to the Term 3, Week 1 fixture schedule on the College app for all game times and court/field allocations. The most up-to-date information is always posted on the College app.

The College app can be downloaded from the Apple or Google Play stores - search for “Clayfield College”. The app is very important to download as this is our instant communication method. In the event of wet or extreme weather, any cancellations of sports training or matches will be communicated through the College app. Please check this regularly if poor weather looks imminent.

The body maintenance program rolls out over the next two weeks with our exercise physiologist coming back in to show the girls and coaches the program they are to follow. Most of these introductory sessions were done this week with just a few more next week illustrated in green on the weekly training schedule table below.

QGSSSA - Round 1

Week 1 Fixture details – Away vs SPLC can be found on the College app under the "Notices" tile.

Training Schedule

For Week 2, there are a few minor changes to some teams training schedules due to coaching staff availability. Again, all these details and any changes can be located on the College app. Students are reminded to contact Ms Barnes to discuss any clashes with training and other school commitments.

QGSSSA Athletics

A reminder that our Years 7 to 12 Inter-House Athletics Carnival is next Wednesday at St Lucia. All Years 7 to 11 high jump events will be run prior to the carnival during lunch breaks each day. Year 10 will compete on Monday followed by Year 11 on Tuesday. The Year 12 girls will compete at the carnival on Wednesday.

Buses will take the girls to and from the venue. Parents are welcome to spectate; however, must wear a mask, socially distance, register their attendance using the QR code for the venue and importantly, stay away if experiencing any Covid symptoms, no matter how mild.

QG Athletics training has recommenced this week with good numbers starting to attend. Again we encourage all girls to come along and train for events they are keen to learn more about. Our inter-house carnival on Wednesday will help us identify those students who will make up our athletics team to compete at QG in the last week of term. The team will require between 6 – 80 athletes to ensure we compete in all events, so all girls are encouraged to push hard at the inter-house carnival and then come to training each week to improve.

QGSSSA has partnered with UQ Athletics this year to run a 6 session meet series running from the 6 August - 10 September. Clayfield College will be attending 4 of the 6 meets and further details will be published in the coming weeks.

Volleyball Academy – Whole Year Program

The Clayfield College Volleyball Academy recommenced the first day back of Term 3 in the PE Centre. Currently, we have 22 girls registered to be part of the academy. Girls are to see Ms Barnes if they are wanting to take part.

Metropolitan North Trials

The list below shows the sports trials due to be held in Term 3. Student Achievements

We are less than a week into the term but a few outstanding student achievements that occurred over the holidays have filtered through.

Tiana Kritzinger

A huge congratulations to Tiana Kritzinger who has been selected for the Australian Junior Team after her performances at the Age Nationals and Olympic Trials. She will be competing against the AUS UNI team in Brisbane as the team cannot travel overseas yet. Tiana stated that she was very happy about making the team and knowing her hard work has paid off.

Emma Sanders

During the holidays Emma Sanders and her horse ‘Dino’ travelled up to Maryborough to compete at the Interschool State Equestrian Championships. Following on from her success at the championships she has been selected on the Queensland Team to compete at the National Interschool Championships in Victoria in September. Well done Emma and we will be right behind you in September.

Danni Jones

On Wednesday, Danni competed in the Year 9 IH Athletics high jump event at school and set a new record jumping an astounding 1.53cm. This is a personal best for Danni and it was witnessed by her peers and junior students, all of who stood in awe as they watched her fly over the bar. Well done Danni, we look forward to seeing how high you can continue to climb over the next 8 weeks prior to QG Athletics.

If your daughter has achieved a significant result in her sport, please email Ms Christine Barnes cbarnes1@clayfield.qld.edu.au so we can share this achievement with the College community.
