From the Principal

Restrictions have been updated. Year 5 Camp is going ahead.

Welcome to Ivanhoe PS

Dear parents

We are thrilled to have the students back at school onsite. The energy in the classrooms and learning spaces is matched by the enthusiasm of the staff for face to face teaching.

We are cautiously interpreting the relaxing of rules and regulations and I commend your patience for checking in using the QR codes on the gates and wearing masks.

Remember the gates are not open before 8.45am, there are no staff outside so please do not drop your children off before then.

Changes to restrictions

Once again we see a change to the rules with the the Acting Premier advising that from 11.59pm Thursday 17th June, the 25km travel limit will be removed and travel between metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria will resume.

Two visitors per day (plus dependants) will be permitted to gather inside the home in metro Melbourne, and up to five people (plus dependants) in regional Victoria.

Twenty people can gather outside in Melbourne, and 50 in regional Victoria. Masks will continue to be required indoors but they are no longer required outdoors – however they’ll still be recommended when you can’t maintain physical distancing.

The full transcript of the announcement by the Acting Premier is here...

The table of what is allowed is below.

What this means for us

For IPS this means from Monday you will not have to wear masks outside on school grounds but you must continue to physically distance yourselves.

Gates will continue to be opened at 8.45am and we would appreciate you continuing to sign in using the QR codes on each gate.

Unfortunately, adults cannot attend school assembly in the school hall until next term.

It is due to our collective diligence that we have remained safe and remained open.

Year 5 Camp is on!

After speaking to the camp provider and the bus company I am pleased to confirm  that Grade 5 Camp to Coonawarra in GippslandWILLgo ahead. Now let's keep our fingers crossed for good weather.  Regardless, our Year 5s missed camp last year so we are thrilled to be able to go this year. Camp is an important part of the curriculum because it provides opportunities to put our values into practice.

As noisy as it can be, it is super satisfying to sit down to dinner with the students and listen to the chit chat as they share their adventures, their trials and tribulations of the day. Staff invariariably speak of those students who surprised everyone and stepped up, took a risk or just had a go at something new.

Congratulations

For those of you who know Ms Minnis, I share with you the joyous arrival of her baby daughter Grace Dorothy Menzies. Born 12.06.2021 at 9.31am at 3.36kg 7.4 pounds, 51 cm long with big feet 😆. Grace was born on her due date at 40 weeks! Congratulations.

Book Week

Other things to look forward to include Book Week and the IPS School Fair.

This year Book Week will be held in Term 3 and the theme is "Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds". What has been planned so far are three author visits :

Year 5 and 6 Author Visit- Tuesday the 24th of August - Chris Kennett

Year 3 and 4 Author Visit- Wednesday the 25th of August- Alex Miles

Foundation, Year 1 and 2 Author Visit- Thursday the 26th of August- Davina Bell

...and, of course, a book week parade.

Our staff love reading literature and are so committed I cant wait to see what they will be wearing. A big thank you in advance to our Book Week Committee of Miss McCormick, Mrs Kennedy, Mrs Makoni and Miss Doyle.

Year 6 Robotics and Football

IPS once again partnered with Melboune City Football club for robotics and coding. Thanks Melbourne FC. We've loved the program.

Digital Learning Co-contribution

In 2021 we have continued to invest in the digital tools and knowledge required for teachers and students across all year levels to excel in digital teaching and learning.

This is the final opportunity for 2021 to make a voluntary payment of a $119 Digital Technology Co-contribution per student .

I am confident that every purchase will make a significant difference to  student outcomes. Every dollar is an investment in your child's future and I look forward to keeping you up to date with our progress.

We understand that times are tough and that families contribute in a great many ways to our wonderful school so I thank you for your support.

The old portable building is currently being dismantled

After 12 months of  discussion the Department of Education has agreed to foot the bill for the removal of the old building. This building was placed on the basketball court to allow classes to continue while our capital works buildings were being constructed. Once removed we will look in to how best to restore the basketball court and relandscape around it.

New play equipment is on the horizon

We are currently canvassing the views of our Year 2 and Year 3 students on several options that may be available  later this year.  Playground equipment is inordinately expensive so our initial spend will be limited. However, selection will be contingent on it being able to be added to or extended. Fair fundraising will contribute to the purchase and development of further play scapes.

Can you help?

School Council is looking for a parent or friend of IPS to help us pro bono manage our social media presence as well as some of the more technical aspects of our school website in relation to the promotion of the school fair.

If you think that might be you please phone me or get in touch with a member of School Council.
