Welcome to Ms Harvey-Bice

Ms Bree Harvey-Bice joined Armidale Secondary College in the position of Principal (Relieving) at the beginning of this term. She has a strong background in school leadership in the Newcastle area. Bree also has a real understanding of issues facing families; having raised four now-adult children through their teenage years and HSC/TAFE/university experiences.

Ms Harvey-Bice is herself a graduate of the NSW public education system, saying:

My teachers at high school gave me a vision of a possible future that wasn't part of my family experience. Ever since I have made it my mission to pay that forward. My personal goal in education is to empower members of my school comunity to realise the possibilities that they thought were only dreams.

We hope you've already seen the introduction that Ms Harvey-Bice has shared with ASC families. To read her full message please click here

We welcome Bree to our school community and look forward to working together.

2022's Year 7 students

During the past month, Ms Graham and Ms G Cameron visited many of our local primary schools (Drummond Memorial, Ben Venue, Sandon, Armidale City, Newling and Martin's Gully) to meet our prospective 2022 Year 7 students. Some fabulous current ASC students also helped out by returning to their former primary schools to talk to the incoming cohort about life at ASC.

Despite the setbacks of lockdown, ASC is hopeful to be up and running transition activities again soon. In the meantime, take a peek at the video we have made showing some of our current Year 7's talking about life in high school:

Incoming students will also be able to view it on the ASC website in coming days.

Getting Caught Reading @ ASC!

We are currently introducing the Getting Caught Reading initiative into the school.  Some of its features include:

  • when we return to school, all of Year 7 will read for 20 minutes everyday at the start of Period 3;
  • Year 7 will be given a Book Level by their English teacher so that books they select are at the right level for them;
  • Year 7 will complete quizzes using the Accelerated Reader programme.

At home, families can support reading progress by:

  • encouraging your student to read ... and not just your Year 7 student!
  • guide your student to the following places for books:
  1. http://armidale.eplatform.co/:provided through ASC's Library, including a wide variety of ebooks. (Students can also access this through Oliver, on their student portal);
  2. https://www.armidaleregional.nsw.gov.au/community/arts-and-culture/libraries: free membership at Armidale's town library, with a range of digital texts. (Free home delivery service is currently available).

We are looking forward to everyone enjoying Getting Caught Reading!
