Year 9
Dear God,
We give thanks for places of simplicity and peace;
let us find such a place within ourselves.
We give thanks for places of refuge and beauty;
let us find such a place within ourselves.
Michael Leunig
In the past fortnight, two significant events took place at Kilbreda College: Lent has begun and the Year 9 Middle School Leaders have been elected. Both of these are about new beginnings and about leadership. Leunig’s prayer about places of simplicity and peace could easily be subtitled “a prayer for Lent”, so relevant are his themes to the Lenten season.
Lent is a time during which we are invited to journey into the desert with Jesus. Our students live in a world of constant noise – spaces and places of quiet and peace are rare. Lent is a time of waiting, of preparation and of reflection. At Kilbreda we acknowledge this in our prayer and liturgical life, in our acts of Justice and especially in our support for Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion campaign.
Project Compassion is Caritas Australia's annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal. Millions of Australians come together in solidarity with the world's poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity. For more information, or to donate online, see https://lent.caritas.org.au/ . Each Year 9 Homeroom has its own Project Compassion collection box, so I will be announcing early in Term 2 with pride which of the six Year 9 Homerooms raised the most money this year.
As promised in the last newsletter, I am happy to announce the following Middle School Leaders for 2020:

These girls received their leadership badges from our Principal, Ms Nicole Mangelsdorf at a year level assembly today.
Kilbreda hopes that each of these students will lead with courage, wisdom and insight. They have been elected by their peers, so may they be worthy of the honour that they have been afforded by the students of Year 9 and the staff.
