House Swimming Carnival

The annual House Swimming Carnival was held at Carnegie Pool on Friday 28 February and we were lucky enough to have the weather Gods on our side, with some sunshine making an appearance for most of the day.

The House Captains began the day on a high note, with an organised entrance for all of the Year 12s in accordance with their House groups.

This set the scene for the rest of the day with lots of excitement and participation from all year levels. The eight House Leaders also prepared a choreographed dance to 'Eye of the Tiger' , the first event was freestyle and the Year 7s really embraced the House spirit and participation on the day.

The Fastest 50 was held with Nat and Michaela Meyer, Meg and Kate Golby, Chloe Joughin, Emily Roberts and Mia Hayden. Congratulations to all these girls who participated and especially to Chloe from Year 10 for taking the win.

It was a very exciting day for the Delany girls who won (1166) the trophy for the third year in a row followed by Brigid (1021) , Kildare (1008) and Tullow (592).

I’m so excited to have been lucky enough to be appointed a  Delany House Leader for 2020! Throughout my time at Kilbreda, I’ve participated in a wide range of sporting events that has allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and make some great friends along the way! Some events that I’ve participated in includes netball (SCSA and VNA), softball, athletics, volleyball, cricket, basketball, and soccer. I can't wait for the year ahead!

I, Liana Tyrrell, am one of the Brigid House Leaders this year. Along with my fellow leaders, I have always loved participating in school sports and representing the school to the best of our abilities. Many friendships were established from participating and as one of the House Leaders, I will work this year to encourage as many students as I can to get involved in the many co-curricular activities our school has to offer.

Over my years at Kilbreda I have tried to participate in at least six sports each year and always get involved in our whole school sporting events that are always a lot of fun. I am very excited for the year ahead and hope to bring Brigid House to victory!

SCSA Breakfast

On Wednesday 19 February, four of our House Leaders ventured into MSAC for the SCSA Sports Leaders Breakfast. The guest speaker was table tennis player Melissa Tapper who is Australia’s only ever representative in the Olympics and Paralympics.

Melissa spoke to the girls about the challenges in her life and career and the importance of never giving up! Photo opportunities with her Commonwealth Games gold medal and a chance to see her train, and even rally against her, were highlights of the morning.

We look forward to watching her at Tokyo 2020 in her fourth (and hopefully fifth) Olympics.

SCSA Triathlon

Congratulations to the following students who participated in the 2020 Triathlon at Eastern Beach, Geelong on Tuesday 25 February. Jasmine Allen, Jasmine Perry, Sian Francis, Aysha Nayan, Zoe Calabrese, Jessica Lachlan, Kate Golby, Mia Hayden, Megan Jenkins, Chloe Joughin, Chloe Cronin, Emily Roberts, Alexia Ritzert, Leah Allen, Michaela Meyer, Natalie Meyer, Llelarni Mitchell, Ashleigh Clark, Bridgette Gilley, Ella Martin, Sophia Bryant and  Charlotte Pulbrook

The conditions were perfect for all swimmers. Mia Hayden blitzed the field in the Junior 200 metre swim coming out of the water with a 70 metre lead from the next competitor who just happened to be Kate Golby. It was very humid and some of the girls found the bike leg quite challenging, especially coming back up the hill to the transition area. All competitors were amazing!

Congratulations especially to Natalie Meyer and Llelarni Mitchell who have competed in every Triathlon since they started at Kilbreda in 2015. Congratulations also to Kate Golby who finished 10th; Chloe Joughin 6th; Michaela Meyer 7th; and Nat Meyer 5th.

Overall, Kilbreda finished 3rd behind Sacred Heart Geelong and CLC.

Surf League

Congratulations to the following students who participated in the Surf League at Mordialloc Beach last Wednesday. Natalie Meyer, Megan Jenkins, Chloe Joughin, Emily Roberts, Michaela Meyer, Lucia Bryant, Sian Francis, Stella Mackay and Jessica Herft.

The girls competed against Parkdale Secondary, Mentone Girls Grammar, Mentone Grammar, MLC, Peninsula Grammar, Padua College, St Leonards, Balcombe Grammar School, Toorak College and OLSH.

The conditions were not ideal for sprinting on the beach or wading/ boarding in the waves. The wind picked up around 10.30am and many quickshades did not cope very well in the wild conditions. As the storm intensified most of the athletes huddled under quickshades or ran for cover inside the Lifesaving Club. As a result the carnival was cancelled for the rest of the day.

Thank you to Trish Jenkins who assisted Kilbreda on the day as an official.

SCSA Swimming and Diving

On Wednesday 25 March the SCSA Swimming and Diving competition will be held at MSAC in Albert Park.

The Diving team has completed two sessions now at the Carnegie Swimming Pool and have one more to go before the actual event. They will complete three dives: forward dive, back dive, reverse dive, inward dive or a twist dive. Three judges will look at the degree of difficulty and score accordingly. We wish our Kilbreda divers all the best for the competition.

Congratulations to the following students who have committed to the Diving Program: Llelarni Mitchell, Tess Mc Cracken, Meg Golby, Charli Gardner, Ruby Douce, Sian Francis and  Sasha Horan.
