First Aid

On Monday 24 February, we held our first Enrichment Day of the year. Enrichment Day is run every second Monday for all VCAL students and is comprised of a number of different activities to enhance and enrich their learning programs.

This fortnight, students participated in a First Aid course. They learnt about CPR, managing hazards, incident reports, cuts and abrasions and bandaging wounds. Students worked diligently throughout the day to satisfactorily demonstrate the required outcomes for the course and will shortly be issued with their certificates.

Many employers look favourably upon those with additional qualifications such as First Aid and we hope that this certificate will enhance students' employment prospects in the future.

Shrove Tuesday

After weeks of planning and preparation, the VCAL classes successfully cooked pancakes for many students and staff on Tuesday 25 February. This project involved students working out how many batches of pancake mix they would need, ingredient lists, working together in small groups, conducting a risk assessment and of course, providing exceptional customer service!

All students should be commended on their efforts and contribution to the successful running of this project.

Active Volunteering

All Senior (Year 12) VCAL students are currently working towards completion of the Certificate II Active Volunteering. A requirement of this course is 20 hours of unpaid volunteer work throughout the course of the year. Whilst some volunteer hours can be accumulated at school, we encourage students to step outside of their comfort zones and volunteer at local charity organisations or in other areas of need.

If you have any opportunities that might suit one or a few of our students, then please do not hesitate to contact me at loretta.mckail@kilbreda.vic.edu.au
