U14 GIRLS SHIELD A

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know and coach this fun, talented bunch of girls that make up the U14G Shield A team, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for them.

There have been lots of team achievements to be proud of for the U14G including finishing top of the ladder, being undefeated for the season and some big wins! On top of this there have been lots of individual achievements from learning a new hockey skill, to umpiring, Flames, academy, and state involvement to be celebrated.

Highlights range from tiktoks, to star appearances from Olivia Wood and Charlotte Ritman at training, ball kidding duties, funky short corners, zoom kahoots and plenty of goals…. but most importantly singing the TEM song! This at first was a little rusty given the season off and a couple of newly welcomed TEM lions, but I hope by now the words are engrained into long term memory…

A special thank you to all the U14 girls and parents for persevering through such a unique season. Thanks to TG for assisting with coaching and to Anne for managing our team (and managing to keep track of ALL the goals that were scored…. A huge 30 goals across 7 games!!!) A big thankyou to Leesa for all your hard work given such challenging circumstances.

I look forward to seeing lots of you through the indoor/summer season and next year of course.

U14 GIRLS SHIELD B

Seb and I have enjoyed this past season, and it’s a shame that it was cut short by restrictions but it was great to watch as the girls progressed through the season.  The highlight of the season was quite possibly the promotion for the team as we entered the new shield B comp.  There were many improvements and the most vital was to watch the girls develop and learn to play with each other.  I would like to thank Merrin for managing, Seb for assisting, and ultimately the parents for their support.

U14 BOYS SHIELD

The U14 boys faced a challenging year in Shield B, knowing that we would be playing against some highly skilful teams. However, having completed the 2021 season, as coach, I couldn’t be prouder of the way the boys played it out. We had a couple of players picking up the hockey stick for the first-time this year, and impressively they rose to the challenge of shield B without taking a step back. Everyone endeavoured to improve in every session with an incredibly positive attitude that shone through even the big losses. Some of the more experienced players took on leadership roles to help guide the team when Ola and myself needed assistance. Players trying new positions, players working hard for each other and enjoying the game of hockey with their friends, all lead to the success of this team. Every single player by the end of the season, I think, was better than when they started it, and as coaches, that is all Ola and I strive for.

Overall, congratulations to the boys who came from a rough beginning to the season with a 14-0 loss to Footscray, weathered lots of ups and downs throughout, all the way to almost beating Greensborough 4-3 in the final game of the season. It was a tough year but there is no other team I would have rather completed it with. Well-done Lads.
