UMPIRE
RECOGNITION
by Phil Kennedy and Pip Dudley
We're really excited that we've been able to continue our strong growth in developing young and talented umpires and we have a lot of achievements that we're proud of and deserve recognition.
Congratulations to these juniors who have recently completed their Community Umpire accreditation or are working towards their accreditation:
Violetta Capanni / Hayden MacPhie /
Grace Popplewell
We have a group of umpires who have done the Level 1 workshop and are working towards their practical assessment. It involves plenty of practice umpiring lower grade senior games, all levels of junior competitions, and also tournaments such as Junior State Championships. We're very proud to support and encourage them along this path:
Mackenzie Hughes / Georgina Kennedy Daniel Suzor / Ella Paice / Lucia D'Onofrio / Eliza Grey / Emily Prater / Duncan Geddes / John Robbins
Thank you to our senior accredited umpires for leading by example and helping to support the junior program:
Level 2: Isabel Wright / Adam Smetana
Level 1: Nigel Cann / Joe Connell / Pip Dudley / Jenny Eager / Annabel Kennedy / Finn Poxon / Rory Bowden
Annabel and Isabel have always been willing and available to come out to matches at all times of the weekend to help mentor and coach umpires. We're extremely grateful and lucky to have their support and their love of umpiring makes them excellent role models for young aspiring umpires.
Isabel is furthering her accreditation towards Level 1 Umpire Coaching, which means she will be accredited to coach and assess aspiring Level 1 umpires.
Annabel has taken her first steps into umpire coordination as she confidently managed the Friday night umpire roster. With her blend of impressive social skills and persuasive ability, she made sure that all our games were covered. This is never an easy task but she managed to make it look simple. Together with Jeremy Harris, our Central Zone Umpire Coordinator, she also presented a well-attended development workshop on Zoom in July using video footage from the official umpire briefing videos for the Tokyo Olympics.
