Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

Selemat detang from the Inquiry Centre! We hope everyone is feeling refreshed after our school holidays. We can’t wait to delve into an exciting Term Three.

In the last week of Term Two, we closed the term off with a BANG!

In Maths, we drew and explored both two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes by their names and features as we created our own shape games. We showed lots of creativity making puzzles, matching games, books and board games to show our knowledge of the sides and corners of two-dimensional shapes and the faces, vertices and edges of three-dimensional shapes. It was very tricky drawing our three-dimensional shapes as we used perseverance.

In Science, we reflected on all our science endeavours through the term including observing changes through our carrots growing and our experiment involving observing how paper, plastic rubbish and fruit waste decomposes at different rates.

In Literacy, we continued with summarising fiction texts by finding and sharing important information. We used our Good Fit books to create new front covers and blurbs that were interesting, informative and left the readers wanting to read more. In Writing, we reflected as a class and individually about Term Two. We shared exciting memories including our excursion to Healesville Sanctuary, Cross Country, Fairy Bread making and more. We also shared what we have improved on and activities we look forward to in Term Three. We topped off the end of the term by writing a procedural text about how to have a good holiday!

Most exciting of all, we were very grateful to be able to perform our Junior Production! We were all blown away by how beautifully the Junior students performed. They demonstrated perseverance, bravery and teamwork as they each sang and danced their songs as a part of A Colour Catastrophe. The students shined in their colourful outfits and the detectives were great at finding all the colours! It was amazing to see the colourful stage lights and film crew and we can’t wait to watch the video of our whole performance. We would like to extend our gratitude to the parents, supporting staff, the Senior students and Claire Andrews for making sure the show moved along smoothly.

In the upcoming weeks through Term Three, there are even more fun learning experiences to be had! We will continue to explore persuasive texts and speeches and move back to Narrative writing. In Literacy, we will be exploring Readers Theatre as we engage with scripts and speaking and listening. In Maths, we will delve into division and multiplication with sharing equally and skip counting. In Guided Inquiry we begin with celebrating differences through a rotation of different cultures and countries. We will continue exploring First Nations Perspectives through NAIDOC week and Understanding Country. In Science we are excited to explore Science all around us through the different Science stands and in Wellbeing we will begin with identifying differences and our identity. We would like to again extend our invitations to parents/carers or members of our MPRPS community who have expertise in any area of Science to come and share briefly with our students in their classes. If you would like to be part of this, please send a Sentral message to your child’s class teacher with the area of Science that you would be able to share about and if there are particular days/times that would suit you best to either Zoom in or come to visit.
