Independence Centre

Curriculum

Selemat detang from the Independence Centre! We hope you are all as excited for Term Three as we are. It is going to be a big term and we getting straight into our busy schedule as our Senior School Swimming Program begins! Please remember that student should come with their swimmers on under their school uniform and with a small bag including all they will need to quickly get dry, change, and back on the bus (in that order).

In the last week of Term Two we finished of the term by revisiting our achievements and sharing our projects.

In Maths, we investigated measurement using the metric system to measure the perimeter and area of a range of shapes. We started off looking at shapes we were comfortable with and quickly moved onto challenging ourselves with compound and irregular shapes. Some students in 3/4 enjoyed investigating some interesting shapes, including the majestic dodecahedron.

In Reading, we applied our persuasive writing skills we developed earlier in the term to investigate "News Reports" as a genre. We worked together in groups to produce our own news report using the features we identified in professional sources and added our own touch of creativity to engage our audience. These were a highlight of our 3/4 assembly item in the last week of term.

In Writing, we reviewed our learning progress as we reflected on our personal learning goals. We spent time gathering evidence to show our growth and reflected on our progress. Some of our goals were met, others exceeded, and some we might even need some more work on. The focus for all of us was to develop goal setting and reflection skills so we can take charge of our own learning.

Our final Guided Inquiry session of the term were a celebration of all we had learned. Over the previous two weeks we put together our knowledge of the environment, ecosystems, the roles of different organisms and our native Australian animal information report to create our own Trioramas (like a Diorama but more TRI-angular).  Together we put on a gallery of our learning for the entire senior school to review together.

What a wonderful week!

Hopefully everyone has had a safe and relaxing term break. Term Three is going to be jam packed with programs and events. We are all excited to be back at school together and are looking forward to working together this term!

Wishing you a lovely week,

Mr Dix, Miss Gasowski, Mrs McCoy, Miss Molloy, Mr O’Connor and Miss Richardson :)
