Leadership Centre

Curriculum

Selamat siang!

After an eventful week at Camp Coonawarra, it was nice to have everyone in the Leadership Centre back at school to see out the end of Term Two. Monday’s Circle Time provided a valuable opportunity to reflect on and share our favourite memories from the week before, with Horse Riding and the Flying Fox being a very clear highlight for a lot of people (including staff!)

Prior to camp, the 5/6 students spent time in Weeks 7 and 8 researching and collating

information about a specific country and presented their findings, which included facts, diagrams and graphs, in a GoogleSlide. Teachers were very impressed with the information students collected and presented while they were learning from home, and it was clear that they challenged themselves to rewrite the information in their own words. When we returned to school, students showcased their research through the means of a travel brochure detailing their country’s culture, cuisine, famous landmarks, popular sports, weather and other important information. There was a lot of creativity on display as many students utilised a range of interactive ‘lapbook’ elements to make their brochures even more engaging. It was also very impressive to see the high level of collaboration that occurred in order for students to complete their brochure as well as set up a stall for our Leadership Centre Travel Expo. We were fortunate to have the students from the Independence Centre visit our Travel Expo and provide feedback to the 5/6 students about their brochure and stall set ups. It was a wonderful way to end the term!

In Numeracy, students were tasked with a Data Investigation which involved analysing Screen Time Data on iPads. Students were provided with a variety of Success Criteria and took ownership over how they presented their findings. Students engaged in teacher and student-led conferences about how to construct a range of data displays that would clearly represent the data, as well as think critically about which data display was the most appropriate to create. For example, line graphs are great for showing trends over a period of time! Asynchronous resources were also available for students to utilise. Overall, it was a great way for students to analyse their screen time usage in a fun and engaging way and fueled discussions around mindful use of digital technologies.

Of course, we can’t forget about the I.C.E Showcase! It is always such a memorable moment for all and we were so grateful to be able to end the term by celebrating everyone's successes over the course of the I.C.E Program in Semester One. Great work to everyone who participated and embraced new opportunities and challenges in I.C.E and to the Year 6 Leaders who took initiative to organise a group. We look forward to a new round this semester!
