Premiers' Reading Challenge 2021

Well done to all of our students that have been enjoying their reading and recording all the books that they have read!  Keep up the great work!

We still have a few weeks to complete the challenge.  Looking forward to watching your progress.

Mathematics - Olympics Style

Hasn't it been fantastic to watch the Olympics. It has been great listening to the students talk about their favourite athletes and the incidental mathematics that comes with this. I heard one Year 4 student mention, 'He won by 1 hundredth of a second.' Another Year 5 student was talking about calculating the difference between the World Record and the Olympic Record, set by one of our Australian athletes.

The Olympics is the perfect opportunity to complete some Real Life mathematics at home.

Could you graph the medal tally?

Could you time yourself to complete 100m and compare this to the World Record Holder?

How many times do you need to jump to get the Long Jump World Record?

Have a race with the members of your family. Discuss ordinal number - who came 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.

I would love to hear what Olympics mathematics your family does.

There will be a prize for the most creative response.

Thanks
